The flavor is what turned me off. Short lived malty creamy beginning followed by black licorice and finished with a green woody taste. ewww. beerdad (74), Kansas, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jan 16, 2009 Medium, bright beige head, over black beer. Very nice coffee, or coffee-extract nose, bit smoked & resin, and sweet malt syrup underneath. Very much drop/liquorice flavour, some molasses, a bit of resiny flavour, and finishing a bit watery. Pretty sweet and a bit fizzy. Interesting, but rather weak finish. dkachur (2347), Charlottesville, Virginia, USA

Dried fruits, roasted malt and molasses in the solid aroma. Robust sweet-bitter flavour, medium to full bodied, creamy MF indeed. Lingering sweet-fruity, later drier bitter finish with an almost smoky touch. Good, fine English quality............. cyrenaica (440), Milton, Ontario, Canada

I tried this beer on October 10, 2008 after purchasing from one of my local LCBO outlets. The beer poured a dark brownish-black. When held up against sunlight, there was a trace of light getting throogh. The head was thin, bubbly, and gone in an instant. The aroma was roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. The mouthfeel was medium-bodied, and slightly creamy. The flavour profile is similar to the aroma, roasted malt with a definite cocoa like taste and feel. chops (60), Brantford, Ontario, Canada
