NoiZe (1288), Mooi Zeist, Netherlands Aug 17, 2008 Black colored. Coffee and burned malts in the aroma. Coffee and burned malts in the flavor. Could be more creamy. Nice, but a bit average. Chrism86 (273), Melbourne, Australia Aug 15, 2008 Updated: Oct 24, 2008Pours jet black with hints of ruby highlights at the rim. Towering tan coloured head is tightly packed and laces brilliantly. (Head remains substantial till the end of glass!!) Aromas of milky coffee, dry roast and a hint of dark berries. Palate expresses much of the same with the appearance of some brandied characters that complement the hinting dark fruits. Carbonation is noticeably high, which gives the impression of a dryer finish complete with dry hop and highly kilned malt notes. fidel (886), Livermore, California, USA Aug 15, 2008 Black, roasted coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, Dark fruits, caramel, slight hop, dry. Glouglouburp (2778), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Aug 10, 2008 In short: Typical stout with a usual but complete array of flavours of the style. Unfortunately marred by a lack of body. Decent brew.
How: Bottle 500ml, age unknown but drank within a few weeks after receiving it. Courtesy of hopscotch, thanks a lot Eric
The look: Black body topped by a tan sheet of foam.
In long: Strong black coffee aroma. Taste is rather simplistic. Roastiness level is medium-high. Initially the flavour is halfway between a cup of black coffee and roasted coffee beans. As the beer warms up some dark fruits (figs and such), some black chocolate and some vanilla start coming out. A bit dry. Body is thinner than it should be, even a little watery. Carbonation is appropriately medium. The thinner body and vanilla flavours gives a barrel aging impression. All in all a pretty standard stout like I’ve had many many times before, a strange sensation of déjà-bu.
beerchugger (285), Colorado, USA Aug 9, 2008 Updated: May 18, 2009This is the first beer of a long list that I need to re-rate due to my maturing palate. Pours deep dark brown with light amber hues noticeable on the sides. Very thin tan head. Smells of sweet cream and roasted malts. This beer has a medium body which harbors a delicate sweet cream flavor against a deep roasted malt backdrop. Finishes lightly hopy along with burnt coffee and earthy notes making their way forward as well. Geuzelambix (110), København, Denmark Aug 8, 2008 It’s not by chance it’s called a cream stour. The palate is something special, with its lingering in the mouth. The taste is rather run-of-the-mill but still pleasant. yespr (11645), Copenhagen O, Denmark Aug 7, 2008 50 cL bottle. Pours black with a minimal redish glare and a dense chocolate brown and creamy head. Chocolate aroma, vanilla yet also slight chalky. Chocolate and roasted malt to slight smoked malt flavour. Light acidic touch and medium to fully dry. Growing bitterness lurking out of the massive malt flavours into the finish. Jonte (801), Gothenburg, Sweden Aug 3, 2008 Bottle. Black color with a brown head. Sweet and roasted aroma with notes of chocolate, coffee, milk and caramel. The taste is roasted and a bit sweet, but not as sweet as the aroma. Notes of coffee, dark chocolate, licorice, tar, milk and hop bitterness. Creamy mouthfeel.
