glennmastrange (807), hobe sound, Florida, USA Nov 1, 2007 Bottle. Moderate malt aromas of dark bread, molasses and burnt, light hop aroma of perfume and light earth for the yeast, with tar, licorice and cola in the background. Head is small, brown and fizzy which quickly diminishes and has no lacing. Color is black like flat Pepsi. Flavor starts lightly sweet and acidic and the extra long finish is lightly acidic and heavily bitter. Palate is medium, creamy bordering on syrupy, and the carbonation is lively to fizzy with a astringent finish. This beer definitely needs to warm up. Rich and bold, it would make a great cigar accompaniment. Ottimo corpo. Fantastica. NobleSquirrel (1099), Chicago, Illinois, USA Oct 30, 2007 Pretty run of the mill stout with a the typical sweet and sour tank of lactose. Decent, t hardly transcendent. Bananamaniac (35), Kristinehamn, Sweden Oct 30, 2007 One of the best beers I have ever had. Very complex taste of chocolate, coffe and raisins. Not much alcohol-taste even if it’s respectable 6,5%.
To sum it up, I will buy this beer many times. Wulfstan (509), California, USA Oct 29, 2007 Updated: Nov 20, 2007This is a heavy, dark chocolaty beer that is complex and interesting but for me a bit too heavy, odd, & almost harsh, leaving me uncertain how I truly feel about it. It is opaque black, with a thin but dense, lasting brown head leaving moderate lacing. The aroma is strongly mocha, dark chocolate, coffee and fudge, but with an earthiness rather like old leaves. The taste is similarly very dark chocolaty, rather like burnt dark fudge, sweet, with an earthy and woodsy element and faint sourness. There is even a faint hop element and the taste is complex and interesting. The palate is oily yet lively. It is heavy duty in body and taste even for the style. This is not among my favourite stouts, and I wouldn’t want it often, but sometimes I’ll go for it. I also can defnitely see the attraction and ironically my wife, who is not a beer drinker, rather likes it, in part because it is not bitter. ChetLemmons (87), orlando, Florida, USA Oct 28, 2007 creamy chocolate aroma. Dark chocolate flavor, slight malty aftertaste. pretty good. edden (927), cow- lumbus, Ohio, USA Oct 28, 2007 10/27/07: Bottle. Roasted malt aroma. Black bodied with a rich tan head that is thick and leaves a nice lacing on glass. Flavorful roasted malt and expresso characteristics. Smooth finish which is also slightly sour. This is the best brew I’ve tried from St. Peters. Harsebrau (164), Kansas City, Missouri, USA Oct 27, 2007 Very good looking beer. Poured a dark black with a light tan, creamy head of ample size and staying power. RIch aroma of malt, chocolate, and a sweetness. Full in the mouth with a slightly bitter finish.
