Bottle picked out by The Beer Wench. Pours pitch black with a rather large, foamy dark tan head. Aroma of molasses with a bit of licorice thrown in for good measure. Initial mouthfeel is a pleasant sweet offering. The roasty, bitter coffee notes come out at the back of the palate. Interesting beer.

Funky green 50 cl. flask bottle. Pours pitch black, can’t see sunlight through this brew. A brown head leaves a nice lacing. Smells of medium roast coffee and chocolate. The taste reminds me of medium rosted illy coffee with a shot of milk chocolate syrup. Fairly light bodied for a stout. Finishes dry with a black coffee flavor. Oct 2004

The color was dark brown/black. The head was medium tan and creamy. The aroma was sweet malt, molasses, slight coffee, and some roast. The flavor was a little weak, coffee, roast, and sweet malt. The palate was smooth and the finish, a little abrupt.

Pours dark ruby brown out of the bottle and sits dark black in the glass. The head is thick creamy and brown, look nitro. The aroma is rich, sweet, slight chocolate, and mostly caramel. The flavor shows milk and bittersweet chocolate, caramel, earthy notes, light hop tones, and burnt coffee. The palate is smooth with light carbonation. Definitely English.

I love this beer. The aroma is strong with chocolate overtones, and it goes down smooth.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a small tan head. Roasted malty aroma with hints of chocolate and some weak hints of coffee. Smooth roasted malty chocolate flavor with some hints of hops. Roasted malty chocolate finish with some bitterness in the aftertaste.

Olive bottle, undated, and purchased relatively recently. Poured clear deeper brown with a tall cap of deep beige head. The aroma picked up dry, lightly-roasted chocolate, cocoa, darker fruits, and some sourness. The flavor had a whole bunch of chocolate, lightly-roasted and on the sweeter side.. rising sourness emerged toward the back-end, leaving a bitter-sweet and sour chocolate finish. Smooth and creamy on the palate, but the sourness threw it off.. seemed off, and I will have to re-try.

Pretty good, but needs more carbonation. Had no head whatsoever, only some lace. Unsure if I just got an older, flatter bottle or if the beer is normally like this. Really warmed me up... wouldn’t want to drink this except on a cold winter night.
