beerme420 (50), Corona, California, USA Aug 26, 2007 dark beer with a small fizzy head. Hint of chocolate with a bitter after taste. Not too thick, tastes like a watered down stout malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Aug 17, 2007 16.9 ounce bottle in pint glass. Pours black with lasting brown head and excellent lace. Aroma of chocolate milk, and farm. Roasted chocolate and fruity raisin flavors with very strong bitter finish. Medium body and medium-low carbonation make for nice mouthfeel. An excellent beer that I knew nothing about. rudolf (1734), Buffalo, New York, USA Aug 17, 2007 Very dark ruby/black. Thin off-tan head. Nose is toffee, some alcohol, dark fruits. Chocolate cherry. Slightly milky roast malt, a bit of burnt dark fruit, slightly tart finish alaskanwarren (286), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2007 Pours nice and dark with a huge frothy head. Bubbles were medium in size and they stuck around for a nice long time. Aroma is of wet wood and bourbon. The flavor is pretty roasty up front and also kinda like dry red wine. The body is kinda lighter than I expected and not as creamy as I had thought it would be by the name. Pretty interesting and flavorful. I’d definitely try it again. jexes23 (5), Texas, USA does not count Aug 13, 2007 chocolate and coffe notes the smell is amazing, great beer one of my favorites warming to the core jrhammonds (28), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA Aug 11, 2007 The body is a deep, dark brown, with a tan head that collects around the edge of the glass. The aroma, while more sublte than most, is sweet, malty, (maybe) coffee, and a touch of wood. The flavor is slightly sour, but nice; there are notes of chocolate and caramel malts, with a strong carbonation. The hops are more evident than expected--but overall nice. The mouthfeel is quite creamy--exceptional! Yeast esters add to the complexity. Lasting finish from both the roasted malt and hops. AndrewC (70), Canterbury, Kent, England Aug 10, 2007 Bottle. Black with tan head. Smells sour. Big roasted tar flavour with slightly milky alcohol warmth. Some smoke flavours. Some sourness. krysztofar (344), belleville, Illinois, USA Aug 8, 2007 16.9 color is black with only traces of burgundy when held to light. impressive meringue-like espresso head slowly exits leaving heavy lacing. sweet malted grain is first out of the glass with some dark roasted coffee following. creamy entry is quite smooth with a wonderful bitterness. the finish is full of coffee and bitter chocolate flavors. a great example of the style.
