Bubbles were medium in size and they stuck around for a nice long time. Aroma is of wet wood and bourbon. The flavor is pretty roasty up front and also kinda like dry red wine. The body is kinda lighter than I expected and not as creamy as I had thought it would be by the name. Pretty interesting and flavorful. I’d definitely try it again. jexes23 (5), Texas, USA does not count | 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 18/20 | Aug 13, 2007 chocolate and coffe notes the smell is amazing, great beer one of my favorites warming to the core jrhammonds (28), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 11, 2007 The body is a deep, dark brown, with a tan head that collects around the edge of the glass. The aroma, while more sublte than most, is sweet, malty, (maybe) coffee, and a touch of wood. The flavor is slightly sour, but nice; there are notes of chocolate and caramel malts, with a strong carbonation. The hops are more evident than expected--but overall nice. The mouthfeel is quite creamy--exceptional! Yeast esters add to the complexity. Lasting finish from both the roasted malt and hops. AndrewC (70), Canterbury, Kent, England

This one is the best stout i ever taste from the bottle. Realy good beer! New bottles from st Peters looks not so good as one on the picture (more ordinary), but beer is very very good as always. | 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 6, 2007 Pint bottle. Deep translucent brown - very little light gets through. Not much head, though. Aroma of smoke, bitter chocolate, expresso, and dark roasted fruit. Very nice. Taste follows along similar lines: smoke, roasted malt, coffee grounds, and some nuttiness. The alcohol is well hidden. Mouthfeel is very full and smooth. Very nice. kringlan (20), Falun, Sweden
| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 3, 2007 A warm dark-brown colour (close to black) with a relatively creamy brown head. Lacing ok. Aroma wise it would be vanilla, coffe and chocolate that protrudes. I am funnilly enough reminded of those coca cola ice-lollies I used to get as a child. Feels excitingly multifaceted to the palate. Nice fizzyness. Tastewise what stands out is vanilla, caramel, molasses, chocolate and coffe - in that order. Very pleasant to drink and in a nice looking bottle at that.
