| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 19, 2009 It poured a pitch black liquid with a big light brown foam that left some lacing. Looked very appealing.
It had a fairly strong smell where chocolate and coffey where the two dominant aromas. It also had a hint of nuts and something burned and toasty.
It was smooth and tasted of chocolate and coffey. It also had a hint of nuts and that burned sensation that I felt in the smell. It wasn’t overwhelming though and quite easily drinkable. Very enjoyable beer overall. But it didn’t stand out in any special way. zebracakes (1214), Washington DC, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Aug 14, 2009 Bottle. Pours black brown, tan head. Aroma is malt, anise, molasses, caramel, pine, roasted nuts. Flavor is chewy and smoky. Some lingering anise, molasses and roasted bitterness. This has a more robust flavor than I would expect from an English stout. I approve! JohnC (2246), Mission Viejo, California, USA

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Aug 7, 2009 Black pour with half finger tan head that dissipates slowly. Aroma is caramel, dark fruit, cream, brown sugar, molasses, and a bit or roasted barley. Flavor is roasty with lots of caramel and molasses sweetness, dark chocolate, and coffee. Palate is a bit on the thin side, but smooth and silky, finishing clean. Pretty tasty, but not in the top echelon of its style. ILduce (133), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Aug 2, 2009 (16.9oz bottle) pours a deep light-impenetrable black with nice tan head that fades quickly. Nose is very complex with berries7 chocolate, and light roasted coffee. Taste follows with fruity esters7 creamy chocolate and coffee. Lacks the bitterness I typically hate in this style so I’m loving it. Palette finish is so creamy and chocolatey, really great. A great surprise for me since it was my second choice when they were out of my first. awiseman01 (341), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA
