MrRoss (614), Delta, British Columbia, Canada Jul 15, 2009 Wow! This poured an impenetrable, near-as-dammit black colour. Blacker than Toby’s it was. Not much head to speak of, just an ever so think skin of tan. Aroma smelt like coffee and malt and chocolate, in a very good way. And wasn’t the taste just the same, in a heroic, delicious way as well. Grand, smooth mouthfeel and not at all thin like some other stouts. Kudos for the usual sexy bottle (like a hip flask). Tasty and satisfying through and through. Too bad we don’t have 9.5’s on the ratings scale. dnoaksson (144), , Sweden Jul 11, 2009 På gränsen till bedövande mycket smak, jäser över alla bräddar. Reser sig som ett massiv av beska, med en mörk och rostad karaktär, samt inslag av kaffe och choklad. Angenäm, men kanske något baktung. Pinball (2693), Allerød, Denmark Jul 11, 2009 dark, verly large very smooth thick light brown head. 4++
aroma of roasted grains, hops, honey,
flavor strong dark roasted grains, faint sweetness. a very nice well composed flavor based on dark roasted malts. guyinchicago (516), marengo, Illinois, USA Jun 21, 2009 Pours meduim body, black and brownish red around the edges with small tan head aromas of peat, coffee.smoke and malts flavors of all of the above a nice sweet stout but just not great one. Ethereal (1500), London, Greater London, England Jun 20, 2009 500ml bottle. Pitch black with a line of tan head. Full bodied and smooth, with just a hint of oiliness. Quite sweet at first, with a roasted bitterness coming through towards the finish. Nice liquorice flavours on the aftertaste. Aroma a little muted. johnnygm (38), Santiago, Chile Jun 19, 2009 A great beer for winter. Full body, toasted aromas and bitter chocolate flavour makes this beer one of the best stouts I’ve tried. BeerHawk (1175), Huntsville, Alabama, USA Jun 18, 2009 Bottle. Poured black with a creamy tan head that had some lasting and good lace. Aromas of dark chocolate, toffee, and cocoa. The flavor found dark chocolate, coffee, roast, and light hops. Medium to full body with a bitter roast coffee aftertaste. Nice! PapaSkeetSkeet (65), , Massachusetts, USA Jun 16, 2009 I had this one about three weeks ago so I don’t remember the exact details of the aroma, but The Flavor was a beautiful creamy roasted malt. Full bodied, great impression. I’ll add more details when I have it again, great beer!
