ohnoitskristin (62), Santa Cruz, California, USA Aug 20, 2006 1 pint .9 oz bottle. Poured a deep brown, almost black color with a tan colored head. Aroma was very chocolatey and sweet. The taste was dark chocolate, cream notes and very smooth on the palate. Not a lot of activity but definately a good sipping beer, very enjoyable even when warm. RobertGBG (109), Göteborg, Sweden Aug 19, 2006 Bottle, Aged 1 year, Coffe/choccale aroma, Dark with nice head, Taste of coffe, bitterness bigcat03 (191), Lincoln, Nebraska, USA Aug 15, 2006 Updated: Jul 11, 20071 pt .9 oz bottle from Hy-Vee Liquors St. Joe poured into english pint - Pours very dark brown with a 1.5 finger bubly beige head; Sweet malt, chocolate and a hint of coffee to the nose; Coffee, lots of dark chocolate and a bit of roast on the initial taste; Espresso and a milky sort of backtaste that reminds me very much of an iced drink from Starbucks; Very smooth drinking beer with a fairly full palate. Definitely dig the bottle! Not the best sweet stout but certainly better than most! I’d like to revisit this one, in fact. Enjoyed until the last drop!
Re-Rate - New bottle! Had to pick it up for the collection and I remembered liking this beer a bit. Aroma is the same but the taste is better now. Roasted barley, dark chocolate, cafe latte, straight coffee on the initial. Much the same on the finish, but a bigger espresso presence and less of the milk and chocolate. Still one of my favorite stouts that I can find easily. Beerdedone (1873), Croydon, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 15, 2006 Bottle sampled with Stegosaurus. Pours dark with a tan head. Aroma of coffee, roasted and chocolate malts. Flavor is chocolate, roast, with a slight bitterness to it. Good beer. TonyBanannas (36), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 5, 2006 Bottle, pours a deep jet black with a shallow brown head. Aroma is coffee, chocolate malt, and raisen. Taste of espresso, and dark chocolate. I liked it, almost like a dry stout. Extremely enjoyable with a good cigar. Especially my aged Ashton Maduro. dkoonce (880), People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA Aug 4, 2006 Dark brwon with absolutely no head. Soapy bubbles in the bottle. Chocolate aroma. Tastes like cold flat coffee with sugar and a bit of cream. A bit of chocolate in the flavor as well. DoubleBubble (107), Mescal Lakes (wherever that is), Arizona, USA Aug 3, 2006 Poured black with a good sized light tan head, very nice lacing. Roasted coffee aroma. Flavor has a roasty coffee flavor. Palate is dry, not as smooth or sweet as I expected. Light to medium body beer. Similiar to Guiness, but not as bitter. Worth a try, not as sweet or smooth as I had hoped. Zinister (1198), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 2, 2006 Pours a great midnight black with very little head (unless you force it). Sweet malt with chocolate, coffee, cocoa and a touch of licorice. Wonderful smoky flavors of coffee, dark chocoate mocha and roasted grains. Very nice mouth feel and finish. Wonderful. Love it.
