Zinister (1199), Houston, Texas, USA Aug 2, 2006 Pours a great midnight black with very little head (unless you force it). Sweet malt with chocolate, coffee, cocoa and a touch of licorice. Wonderful smoky flavors of coffee, dark chocoate mocha and roasted grains. Very nice mouth feel and finish. Wonderful. Love it. BitchesBrew (710), Berkeley, California, USA Aug 1, 2006 [bottle] Pours a near-black color, with a very weak head (even though I tried to really work one up). Sweet burned chocolate aroma, some subtle licorice as well. Flavors are sweet chocolate, dark malty goodness and a bit of coffee. Finishes with an assertive hop bitterness. DarkMagus (433), San Jose, California, USA Aug 1, 2006 Deep dark black/brown color. Very slight, short-lived tan head. Aromas of coffee, burnt grain, malt, some slight cocoa, some woodiness. Similar array of flavors: prominent coffee, cocoa, dark roasted/burnt grains, malt, some slight woody/smoky flavors. Really nice, creamy, smooth, silky mouthfeel. Pretty awesome. Phatz (225), Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 1, 2006 This was a fantastic rich creamy milk stout. The appearance and smell are beautiful but the real synching point of the beer was how remarkably smooth and creamy the silky body just flowed through your palate.
Appearance: Black with a frothy head.
Smell: I could smell the whole cream malt balls aroma coming up through the roasty, chocolaty body. Fantastic!
Taste & mouthfeel: Mocha Chocolaty, super smooth with a silky cream like taste and texture that is truly exceptional.
Drinkability: This beer is absolutely as drinkable as the style can be!
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!
cowboy7096 (54), Arlington, Texas, USA Jul 29, 2006 This is a really darnk beer, solid black and It has no head. It has a real nice burt chocolate taste thats nire a creamy. Goes down nice and smooth. I really like the elliptical bottle with its greenish color. I’ve never really been impressed my the aroma aspect of these styles, has a hint of burt in it. All together a solid beer. Wish it had more carbonation. Strykzone (1459), Wood River, Illinois, USA Jul 28, 2006 Cool bottle. Reminds me of an elixer sold at a Wild West Medicine Show. Pours almost black with a thin lacing. Aroma is akin to a merlott wine. First taste has some vinegar flavor and is mostly bitter. It offers a slight zing on the front of the tongue. After a bit the malt begins to show and some barley is becoming evident. Mouthfeel is thinner than hoped for. This beer has changed considerably throughout the glass. The merlott aroma has changed as has the flavor. To give up early on this one would be unfortunate. The bitterness, while still present, has moved into the background. It has also moved to the back of the throat. Also, some dark fruit has begun to show. Fascinating transitions to this one and I was sorry to see the glass empty. PilsnerPeter (2598), Flushing, New York, USA Jul 28, 2006 I was expecting a little more from this one. Has a nice roasted chocolate malt flavor, and a burnt coffee character later on. There’s barely any mouthfeel, it’s thin and water-like. Initially it’s nice, but it doesn’t have the complexity that you’d expect from a stout. Lilith (242), Santiago, Chile Jul 10, 2006 500 cc bottle Flat, dark mahogany color. Small off-white head that disappears quickly. Strong aroma, sweet and a bit smoked with hints of coffee, toasted grain, wood, flowers, olives, prunes, figs, raisins and sherry. Flavor is hoppy and sweet with traces of coffee and smoked; the alcohol a bit noticeable. Bittersweet finish. The aftertaste is sticky and the texture is velvety. Light to medium body, soft but present carbonation.
