Poured dark. Opaque. No head, some carbonation. Aroma was sweet but faint. Light Chocolate notes, and very sweet. Bready, and bitter in the finish. No aftertaste. Syrupy mouthfeel, light bodied. Dry finish. I was super disappointed, to bready and sweet, where is my coffee, chocolate flavor? To light bodied for a stout. jujubeast6000 (772), Houston, Texas, USA Mar 22, 2006 16.9oz: Pours a dark black color, almost no head, tan-colored. Strong aroma of coffee, mocha, some chocolate, some hops. Very fizzy, taste of coffe, chocolate, slight pale bitter aftertaste. Light texture, not thick. jrob21 (1252), Atlanta, Georgia, USA Mar 19, 2006 Port wine aromas overpowered my first impression. Surprisingly light bodied with a hint of hops I wasn’t expecting. Easy to drink but due to a lack of depth and complexity to the taste. Quick finish and bitter aftertaste. GarethYoung (1110), Glasgow, Scotland Mar 18, 2006 [bottle from peckhams] Aroma of roasted coffee, bitter chocolate and a touch of smoke. full body, sweet upfront leads to a bitter finish. nachoman (1), Miami Beach, Florida, USA does not count Mar 17, 2006 Dark Chocolate & Chiccory Coffee taste. Very low in carbination gives more depth to the flavor. Dry aftertaste. A wonderful beer, dark & flavorful, in a beautiful bottle. smcd (366), USA Mar 15, 2006 (500ml Bottle. 03/2006) Some coffee aromas and hints of licorice. Inky black with a tiny brown head that disappears quickly. No film. No lace. Roasty, coffee flavors. Some hint of sourness on the back of the palate. Chocolate notes. Dry, bittersweet finish. Tasty. porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Mar 15, 2006 (500 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/freeport/derosier’s/4797.htm target=blank>Derosier’s) Pours a very dark coffee brown with a light brown head. Aroma is sweet with notes of coffee, sweet chocolate, maybe molasses. Some lacing. Taste is a blend of rich coffee and chocolate, a bit of prune juice, with a moderately bitter finish. Had a sort of sweet and sour quality that I wasn’t super fond of but still a quality stout. Mouthfeel fairly thick and smooth. Magicdave6 (5400), London, Greater London, England Mar 13, 2006 Pours amazingly, beautiful black liquid with a rich brown head, which stays throughout. Aroma is roasted coffee malts with a little more grassy hops than expected. Taste is similar, though maybe a little thinner than expected, but dangerously drinkable. A decent beer and better than i expected from this brewery.
