Big aroma of heavy roast and light chocolate. A touch of alcohol and smoke in there as well. The body is smooth with semisweet malt presence and pleasant roast. Smoke in the finish. Dries towards the end with a milky mouthfeel. This is a great stout, lovin the smoke, great roast in the nose. Love this brewery. freekyp (907), Thomasville, North Carolina, USA

A small tan head floats atop the smooth oily body. Very creamy and hugely flavorful with a concentration on malted chocolate and plums. Fantastic! fishonmyplane (128), Newington, Connecticut, USA
| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jun 21, 2003 Appearance is pitch black, with a slightly reddish tint as it pours. Virtually no head at all. Not much of an aroma, but enough to give you a hint of the flavor to come. And the flavor is absolutely delicious: very sweet and chocolaty-perfect for a dessert beer. The aftertaste is a little bitter, but still sweet and enjoyable. The palate is rich but still very smooth and drinkable (I drank mine much faster than I expected to). Highly recommended. | 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Oct 10, 2005 Updated: Nov 8, 2005The signature ½ liter St. Peter’s bottle is as charming and traditional as the captivating dark brown stout that pours from it. There is a dark tan, long-lasting head that leaves excellent lacing. The nose is chocolate malt, with just a hint of coffee. Palate entry brings the underlying sweetness front and center—but it is not overpowering. Full-bodied and exceedingly smooth, this stout quickly develops the mid-palate flavors suggested by the aroma: velvety, milk-chocolate goodness with enough coffee-like tartness and hops to even out the malt sugars. There is also a pleasant and lingering bittersweet aftertaste. Best served slightly below room temperature. RichardWilding (190), London, Greater London, England

Flavor is syrup sweet to start, Lots of roasted coffee and dried fruit. A bitter finish follows. A nice dry aftertaste without any alcohol burn. Flavors are very strong and very nice. Mouthfeel is thick with little carbonation, a little oily. Much like an Imperial without the astringent alcohol finish. A very nice brew. rhapsouldize (174), Phoenixville, Pennsylvania, USA
