| 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Aug 2, 2003 Bottled. Jet black, poor beige head and moderate condition. Good roasted coffee and licorice aromas, some burnt sugar and a fruity raisin note. Quite sweet and chocolatey in the mouth with a fruity tart edge and more roastiness, also some suggestion of dandelion and burdock. Finish starts sweet but becomes roast barley dry and lingers nicely.

Aroma wasn’t all that intense. Maybe a little too cold. The flavor was a nice bitter coffee and some chocolate. I enjoyed this considerably, but it was bit expensive. I can find stous just as pleasurable for less. Trappist (279), Knoxville, Tennessee, USA

Dark brown and semi-sweet, with metallic notes that seem to be a trend in all of the St.Peters brews. Creamy mouth feel, all in all not bad. leaparsons (4756), Leicester, Leicestershire, England

The finish is especially choc-like with a touch of coffee. It is amazing what variety of flavours beer ingredients can produce. johndoughty (2170), cheslyn hay, West Midlands, England

Dark mahogany with ruby hues around the edges. Two finger coffee colored head dissipates quickly, and very little lace is left behind.
Espresso and chocolate aroma. There is an underlying sweetness that reminds me of chocolate covered cherries or blueberries
Roasty coffee and sweet creamy chocolate flavors.
Finish is long and bittersweet.
I was quite surprised. After trying the Golden Ale, which I thought was average at best, I was expecting a mediocre stout. Not the case. This was excellent. Will definitely buy again
