4.6 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 adam42381 (366) - Fort Myers, Florida, USA - SEP 25, 2011
Review from notes at World of Beer - Fort Myers on 9/24/11.
Poured from a 16.9 ounce bottle into an imperial pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a coffee black with brown edges and a 1 finger creamy light tan head. Nice lacing.
Smell: Sweet cream, sweet malt, toffee and a touch of coffee. Very sweet. Smells absolutely perfect.
Taste: Vanilla and sweet malt up front followed by coffee in the middle before ending with a touch of bitter hops at the finish. Aftertaste is bittersweet.
Mouthfeel: Medium-full-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: Very good drinkability. You could drink a few on a cool evening.
Overall: Excellent beer overall. This is the best cream stout I’ve ever had. I highly recommend this one.

Appearance...BLACK!!! Sweet, coffeeish, malty aroma. Flavor was sweet malty and of coffee. To me this had the qualities of both dry stout and sweet stout.. kinda reminded me of Guinness, but also kinda reminded me of Mackeson’s. WONDERFUL STOUT!
4.5 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 joet (1925) - Santa Rosa, California, USA - JUN 21, 2002
Incredible roasty nose that is much more articulate than most but difficult for me to translate. It doesn’t lend itself easily to coffeee or cocoa analogies -- it’s very purely roasty with room for some coal and tobacco edges. Creamy without overdoing it with nitro. Some bitter cocoa in the finish. There hops all voer this brew though I wouldn’t guess the IBUs are greater than 30. Thankfully, no soft (oxidized) hopping spoils the beer’s incredible brightness.

St. Peter’s is known for having a few doozies in their collection, so I bought this one with a little trepidation but taken in by the elegance of the bottle--I just love these antique-style green flask-like bottles. I was stunned by this beer, absolutely stunned. I think there is often a underlying tendency among beer raters that unless the label says "Rochefort" or "Alesmith" or whatever then you can’t get into the upper reaches with a beer. This one should defy that. Dark brown with hints of ruby but still sufficiently dark for a stout, the aroma came to life with a roasted, coffee, nutty, lactic, intriguingly hoppy bouquet, and the tasting had all that plus an incredibly well situated bitterness that lended deeper roasted sensibilities to the rich chocolate and coffee. The palate wasn’t too light, but the lightly oily touch was counterpointed by a consistent fine carbonation that lasted and lasted, with each sip giving a perky reminder of this beer’s effervescent flavors. Indeed, unlike many beers, there was not a temperature where it didn’t strike a nice note--cold from the fridge to fully warmed to room temperature (the bottom of my pint nearly three hours later after I came back from putting my kids to bed). It was all good. And this is true even when I haven’t been all that impressed by many sweet stouts (particularly oatmeal stouts but some milk stouts as well). I would buy this again and again, as long as each bottle was like this. I ate this with a good English meal--homemade from Nigel Slater’s Appetite cookbook, a moderately spicy sausage and mash with onion gravy, in this case using a more flavorful Portuguese linguesa sausage but still wonderful. The roasted stout worked really well with the spice. Have I said enough? This is one fine beer that deserves greater appreciation.

This is a nice heavy stout, though not really that creamy. The sweetness is there, but not too much, easily making this the best St peters I’ve had.

This is the best Cream Stout I have had the plessure to sample. A deep dark color with little or no head. Very smooth and creamy with a touch of bitterness at the finish. I like this stout very much!

creamy chocolaty taste, great smell, very nice poor thick rich head. I enjoyed this stout, not to bitter in the taste.

A delicious Cream Stout from the good old boys of England. Tradtionally sound this beer is as much a joy to taste as it is to look at. Also the bottle fits perfectly in both hands.

Mahogany-tinted black with a tight brown head that shows remarkable retention and generates thick lace for the entire pint (it looks perfect). Very roasty, bitter chocolate, subtle ripe berry fruit, sweet mid-palate, dry finish. The best stout I’ve had in a while.

An excellent smooth stout with a slightly sweet flavor. Not too bitter, I would recommend this to any fan of stouts. Did not feel as carbonated as other more famous stouts. Earlier Rating: 4/14/2006 Total Score: 4.4 This is a great stout for people who enjoy the complex flavor and texture of stouts. The beer improves with a little rest and finishes wonderfully, with a bittersweet taste I haven’t found in many other stouts. If you have the opportunity, St. Peter’s Cream Stout is a must try.
