ultraspank (856), Dublin, Ohio, USA Dec 9, 2007 Initial nose of wheat and cereal. Then notes of toffee, and caramel are present. Pours black. The tall and sticky cola colored head has a nice cascade; then transforms into a mostly lasting creamy tan head with nice lace. The brew starts very malty but balanced, the middle is lightly acidic, and the robust finish has a deep coffee presence along with heavy dried fruit especially raisins and dates. The medium body is creamy and soft. The finish is amazingly clean.
drjay44 (115), USA Aug 28, 2008 500 ml. bottle. Pours a lovely tan, thoroughly stout head which gradually deflates, fabulous lacing, wonderful blackish brown color, nose with yeast, malt, bit of coffee, some chocolate, tastes of malts, finish slightly bitter...mouth feel initially a little light, but then the tiny bubbled carbonation comes in and "creams". Nice, but fairly average for the style. Suds_McDuff (1013), was CapeTown,SA-now Houston,TX, Texas, USA Aug 25, 2008 saved the best til last by the look of the ratings of St Peters beer’s, and the last one I had (ipa) made me almost not buy this, i am happy i did... pours a jet black colour, with a proud hearty head, similar to guinness of all things... vanilla, chocolate, guinness aromas ... some nice flavours, alcohol shows abit , nice roastiness and a smooth drinker ... leaves a clean aftertaste ... enjoyable .. "frank, you rascal" NoiZe (893), Zeist, Netherlands Aug 17, 2008 Black colored. Coffee and burned malts in the aroma. Coffee and burned malts in the flavor. Could be more creamy. Nice, but a bit average. Chrism86 (57), Melbourne, Australia Aug 15, 2008 Pours jet black with hints of ruby highlights at the rim. Towering tan coloured head is tightly packed and laces brilliantly. (Head remains substantial till the end of glass!!) Aromas of milky coffee, dry roast and a hint of dark berries. Palate expresses much of the same with the appearance of some brandied characters that complement the hinting dark fruits. Carbonation is noticeably high, which gives the impression of a dryer finish complete with dry hop and highly kilned malt notes. fidel (133), Livermore, California, USA Aug 15, 2008 Black, roasted coffee, roasted malt, dark chocolate, Dark fruits, caramel, slight hop, dry.
