Luzern, 06. I didn’t like this one much. Has a huge honey nose, very dominating. The taste was overly sweet, with more honey and unpleasant bitterness. There are much better St. Peters beers to enjoy.

From notes alone. Tried this back in August ’07.
’Strange, almost startling aroma of caramelised beetroot, over-baked pecan pie, fudge caramel fresh from the oven, marzipan and oxidised shiraz wine – this complex nose is intriguing and very pleasing. Seductive in the glass; a shimmering ochre tinged burgundy, interspersed with very, very fine bubbles. The head a creamy, condensed pad of cream that yields some wicked lace and retains for the length. Strong notes of burnt raisins (on the palate), marzipan and old English toffee ice-cream sink in first - quite fiercely, but it soon mellows to show some bitter, powdered chocolate, subtle hints of burnt, damp wood and vanilla bean. This is a dessert beer in all aspects, a final course after mains. The body is medium and silky, velvety in the finish and very, very long.’ I loved this one, no obvious hint of honey but it clearly aided in an after dinner night-cap that was bigger and more complex than its gravity forsakes. A very enjoyable ale. (4.5% ABV, 50cL, 18/04/08, Int’l Beer Store, W. Leederville)

Bottle 50cl @ home.
Clear dark red brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate malty, milk chocolate, light hoppy, flowers, perfume, moderate to light heavy honey and vanilla. Flavor is moderate sweet and light light bitter with a average to long duration. Body is medium, texture is creamy - smooth, carbonation is soft. It is a bit to sweet IMO. (080708)

(Bottle, Jerusalem Tavern, Farringdon, London, 4 Aug 2008) Very dark brown colour with frothy, pale brown head. Malty, roasted nose with lots of honey, chocolate fudge and hints of Dr Pepper soft drink. Kind of weird. Malty, roasted taste with burnt honey notes, chocolate and a fairly bitter finish. Slightly weird and lots of burnt honey character, but still a decent beer.

50 cL bottle. Pours dark hazzlenut brown with a creamy tan head. Honey herbal aroma and mild roasted malt. Sweet chocolate powder flavour with a mild honey flavour swept through this. Ends with a lingering mix of chocolate and honey - sure works good in chocolate bars - but not in my beer.
