ChrisTurner (202), Melbourne, Australia May 27, 2008 Black with beige capuccino froth head with good retention and lacing. Delicious yet subtle roasted malty chocolate aroma. Yum. Roasted coffee and chocolate flavour with a little lingering bitterness. Delicious and gets better as it warms up, although some wateriness detracts from the overall impression. Cybercat (778), Georgia, USA May 26, 2008 It pours a dark semi-transparent reddish-brown, almost sable, with a very thick ecru head. Aroma is oily and a little smoky, mainly of molasses or brown sugar but not cloyingly sweet. Flavor is on the thin side - smoky and molasses-y, a little sweet but still with just a hint of hoppy bitterness. Texture is smooth and a bit watery, but this is still a decent brew. rugbydude05 (280), Kew Gardens, New York, USA May 24, 2008 500ml bottle. Pours a cola-like color with little head. Aroma was very soft and nutty. Taste was bitter but very agreeable, with a dry aftertaste. Palate was moderately smooth with a full flavor. I like this beer because it wasnt too overpowering and would complement a meal very well. mgermani (862), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada May 10, 2008 Pours a dark brown with amber highlights. Small head with poor retention, some lacing. Aroma typically porter-like, slightly metallic hops, sweet with a light maple syrup. Light smoked taste, which gives an odd savoury flavour given the dark sweetness. Thick chewy body, lightly creamy with low carbonation. Tastes just like a porter should, but I’m pining for more - perhaps Flying Dog and Fullers have really ruined me for porter from now on. Many thanks to SoLan for the surprise extra! hapjydeuce (765), Del Mar, California, USA May 8, 2008 Updated: May 11, 2008Bottle shared with Devin and Jon at the beach house whilst owning some noobs at Halo 3. Pretty tasty and totally a session beer. Smoky and dry coffee flavor with a strong grain character. Aroma is similar to said flavor, just much weaker. Thin body, light palate. Not too shabby. kflorence (93), San Diego, California, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle. Pours very dark brown with very nice head. St. Peters beers always smell so good! Smells of bittersweet chocolate, vanilla and burnt cocoa. Fairly light mouthfeel for such a dark beer, starts out with sweeter notes of chocolate, nuts, caramel and vanilla. Finishes a little on the dry side, slightly bitter with some malt, tea and hop presence. A very good beer, and nice english style porter. I think I would prefer more of the up front flavor in the finish, but this is definitely a good quality beer. GeneralGao (3051), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Apr 25, 2008 Bottle. Poured a clear dark brown color with orange highlights and an off white head. Aroma was of distinct brown sugar and vanilla. Light to medium body. The flavors followed the aroma, but there was also a light roasty malt note and a hint of roasty bitterness at the end. illinismitty (1790), Nashville, Tennessee, USA Apr 20, 2008 Bottle from World Market in Nashville, TN that my wife brought home as a surprise. Thanks! Pours a deep brown with a foamy tan head and good lacing. Aroma of wet grains and roast. Medium bodied approaching soft carbonation. Flavor of chocolate, caramel, and nutty grains. Finish is semi dry, bitter, with a touch of tobacco and tea, with some astringency. A decent example of a brown porter that has lots of British character. I would have preferred a little more sweetness and a tamer finish, but much better than I was expecting.
