It was very textbook with light bits of coffee and roasted malts with a dark pour with a tan head. Bitterness is present, but not easy to detect. However, I can’t say too much bad about something that represents its stile so well. Ibrew2or3 (2724), Safety Harbor, Florida, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Apr 4, 2008 The British brewers always seem to have really cool bottles and this one is no exception. It pours dark brown with semi firm mocha head. It has a mild yet spot on aroma with rich roasty malts drifting into burnt malts. The taste is very similar to the nose starting with mild malt astringency before rich roasted malts, mild caramel and mild burnt malts build to midway. Into the finish chocolate malts are noticed as the burnt malts build to a tepid level and overtake the flavor. KnN (716), Greenbelt, Maryland, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Apr 1, 2008 Kind of a toasted nut aroma, possibly from the malt? Pours a deep brown color with a nice tan head. The toasted malt characters follow through in the flavor as well. Nice lingering mouth feel. Hint of chocolate, but has a really nice finish. Touch of hops, but not bitter at all. Good beer. keith0718 (159), Olathe, Kansas, USA

| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Mar 21, 2008 Bottle at The Rake in Southwark, London. Pours a dark brown-black with thin off-white head which dissipated almost immediately. This had a smell of smokiness . The taste was smoky as well with malt and some hop bitterness. Hint of coffee, but overwhelmed by smoke. This had a crisp mouthfeel and wasn’t bad, but not great. McGarnigle (307), Rochester, New York, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Mar 21, 2008 From a round, olive green bottle. Pours dark brown/mahogany with a small off white head. Smell makes it seem sweeter than it will in fact be. This is a roasty porter with a bit of charcoal smokiness, but not too much. Quite dry, with some Belgian yeastiness too. Body is a bit too thin with more carbonation than I’d like. Still good; maybe not great value, though. BeerBiker (1392), Kathmandu, Nepal
