Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
This fine beer is a blend of a mature old ale with a younger light beer - just as a true Porter should be. The marriage produces an extremely characterful brew which is dark in colour and complex in taste.

Bottled(500ml). -Reddish/pale brown coloured, medium sized pale beige soapy head, chocolate and mild coffee nose. Roasted malt, chocolate and coffee aroma with notes of dried fruit. Moderate bitter and very smooth. Decent porter.

Bottle. Dark brown with beige vanishing head. Aroma of coffee, roasted, chocolate, plums. Low fruity. Right bitterness, light-medium bodied, hi-drinkability, dry finish. Nice but there’s better out there.

Had this while hanging out with Wendy and some friends in Springfield last night. Subtle nose of coffee & wheat, caramel. Pours the color of cherry wood with garnet highlights. The lovely cascade resolves into a tall stiff off-white head that is mostly lasting and leaves nice spidery lace. The front is roasted but balanced, the middle has light acidity the long finish is floral and roasted. The medium creamy body is soft to lively, the finish feels clean.

Dark like molasses with a monster head and good retention. Aroma? Nothing but malt. Light palate for such a burnt malt flavor. Its like a heavy porter or light stout. All in all, it had a nice beat and I could dance to it. I give it a 75.

Dark brown with thick off-white head. Caramel and hoppy notes. Roasted with a hint of raisins and malt. Medium body with a dry aftertaste.

Bottle: I purchased this, along with the Duchy Original Organic Ale the same night at the same Waldbaums supermarket. Both of these beers had a strange metallic character in the flavor. Is it the clear bottling that lets too much light in? Or are the beers mistreated at large supermarkets? I’m not sure, but I’m mentioning that these possibilities may have affected my rating for this, as well as the Duchy Original Organic. Deep burgundy/brown pour with a tan head that fades. The malt hardly comes through in the body. Has a mineral-like component along with a grassy bitterness throughout the palate, accompanied only by subtle, weak chocolate notes in the background. When it got near room temperature there was only a slight indication of coffeeish character, but I had to dig to get it. I think this bottle was ruined somehow.
