Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
This fine beer is a blend of a mature old ale with a younger light beer - just as a true Porter should be. The marriage produces an extremely characterful brew which is dark in colour and complex in taste.

Dark like molasses with a monster head and good retention. Aroma? Nothing but malt. Light palate for such a burnt malt flavor. Its like a heavy porter or light stout. All in all, it had a nice beat and I could dance to it. I give it a 75.

Dark brown with thick off-white head. Caramel and hoppy notes. Roasted with a hint of raisins and malt. Medium body with a dry aftertaste.

Bottle: I purchased this, along with the Duchy Original Organic Ale the same night at the same Waldbaums supermarket. Both of these beers had a strange metallic character in the flavor. Is it the clear bottling that lets too much light in? Or are the beers mistreated at large supermarkets? I’m not sure, but I’m mentioning that these possibilities may have affected my rating for this, as well as the Duchy Original Organic. Deep burgundy/brown pour with a tan head that fades. The malt hardly comes through in the body. Has a mineral-like component along with a grassy bitterness throughout the palate, accompanied only by subtle, weak chocolate notes in the background. When it got near room temperature there was only a slight indication of coffeeish character, but I had to dig to get it. I think this bottle was ruined somehow.

Poured a tea leaf brown with a old soft bubbly fast leaving head. Aroma was kinda musty malt with some sweet sugar. The taste was flat not as sweet as I expected and was lacking a bit.

Pours a deep garnet with a flimsy head. Aroma is thin chocolate and malt that does not betoken anything special in the flavor, which is pleasant, but too understated for a porter. Mouthfeel is nice for a pilsner, but does not measure up to this genre. Pleasant taste of medium complexity with a decent aftertaste.

Bottle @ Allen Street Hardware Buffalo NY. Very light bodied, cola like porter. Some maltiness but no body no balls. easy drinking but disappointing. Too light bodied for a quality porter IMO
