patty26 (95), New York, New York, USA Oct 23, 2007 Pours a dark black coffee color with a super thick off white to caramel head. The aroma is mainly roasted malt and a hint of alcohol. The flavor is thin and watery, maybe a hint of malt but thats it. This is definitely nothing special. mmmbeer (737), Austin, Texas, USA Oct 22, 2007 1 pint bottle- poured semi-transparent very dark ruby brown, great formation of a frothy tan head. Aroma of dark chocolate, caramel, and slightly of coffee. Hits the mouth with a nice medium body of roasted malt and a few hops, finish stops quickly however. A great porter. luvcasks (178), USA Oct 21, 2007 Dark brown... but with garnet like highlights very attractive. Pours with a nice fluffy tan head...
Chocolate, coffee and chalk with some prune like notes
Very lithe in body, lots of dark malt characters somehow in balance Chocolate, some dark fruits, light coffee, some chalk and a little char. The bitterness is perfectly low to keep the finish dry and complex begging to be whetted with yet another sip.
Not withstanding the greenish tinge to the bottle, I would imagine this would be a wonderful porter to discuss over pints on a fall evening
Cheers!!!
If this is representative of the old world porters (before the corruption) I can see the Victorian porter vats :) emacgee (1859), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA Oct 21, 2007 Poured a translucent dark brown with ruby notes in the glass. Produces a thick, creamy, light brown head. The aroma is sweet, has an earthy caramel aroma, chocolate, coffee. Sweet caramel in the flavor, bittersweet chocolate, waxy. An OK porter. malrubius (969), Valley Stream, New York, USA Oct 20, 2007 16 ounce bottle in pint glass. Muddy dark brown with lasting tan head and lotsa lace. Very mild roasted chocolate chip cookie aroma. Mild roasted fruity flavor, very mild chocolate, and mild bitterness. Medium-light body and medim-low carbonation. Pleasingly not extreme. I imagine this is what the porters or yesteryear were like. Enjoyable and sessionable. pforei (338), USA Oct 20, 2007 Bottle. Trappist glass, (should have used stem glass). Dark brown with mahogeny color and rich head. Mildly roasted malt and sour fruit aroma. Flavor reveals roasted chocolate, coffee, and sour Kriek with a slighty roasted bitter finish. Soft mouthfeel, but thin to medium body. Easy to drink. AmEricanbrew (1747), Louisiana, USA Oct 19, 2007 Funky 50 cl. flask pours a dark brown fluid with a light brown head. Nice grassy burnt hop bud smell with roasted malts. Light to medium bodied with a watery mouthfeel. The taste is of lightly toasted grains with a tapioca pudding sweetness. Has a mildly bitter burnt grain finish.
Pretty weak for a Porter.
Oct 2004 Ughsmash (3981), Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA Oct 16, 2007 Bottled. Poured perhaps a share darker than medium brown with a loose off-white head that doesn’t stick around for long. The aroma picked up lightly-roasted semi-sweet chocolates and darker fruits with a mild hit of char and some herbal notes.. quite sweet overall, but I liked it. The flavor held serve with a sweet chocolate and dark fruity base and light coffee and herbal bitterness at the sides.. drier chocolate and lighly-roasted coffee stick on the finish. Medium-bodied with a decent feel.. wish it wasn’t so sweet (started OK, but lost its appeal after a short while). Good stuff.
