| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 27, 2007 500ml bottle, pours a nutty brown in color when held to the light, little carbination and at first looks not quite a porter. smell is malts, chocolate, coffee, although there is nothing too terribly interesting here. much better mouth feel than anticipated, roasted coffee flavors, slight acidic bitterness, quite creamy for the look. I think this will be better as it warms a bit, but not as bad as i was set up for, still a little watery for my tastes but an ok. beer. Strykzone (1468), Wood River, Illinois, USA
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 12/20 | Jul 25, 2007 Distinctive medicine style bottle. More amber in color than most porters. Head is a soapy tan with plenty of retention. Aroma is a delightful dark fruit. Plums and raisins abound and a hint of smoke is an undertone. Flavor is more tart than expected and plenty smoky. It is a sweet beer, though, and the malt takes some different turns. Interestingly, the malt flavor that is most common appears while licking the lips after a drink. Dark fruit can be found but it is underneath. Chocolate and coffee are also found. More of the dark fruit makes its way to the taste buds late in the glass. Mostly this porter has a smoky tart flavor and a little less hops would be an improvement. It is an interesting beer to rate in that I really like everything about it except the flavor. The flavor is good but after the other categories it is a disappointment. flowerysong (25), USA
| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 3/5 | 20/20 | Jul 24, 2007 Appearance: Pours a clear dark mahogany. Tan head, two fingers, with good retention.
Smell: Roasted malt, dark chocolate, yeast and lemony hops.
Taste: Rich malt flavour with cocoa and coffee notes. Light hops are just right to balance the flavour; some caramel sweetness up front. Dry, earthy finish.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, medium carbonation. Initial creaminess gives way to a mildly bitter bite.
Drinkability: High. Well-structured, lots of complexity, very solid example of the style.

Aroma of chocolate, smoke, roast, and coffee. the flavor is chocolate, lots of smokiness, roast, coffee, and a fair amount of bitterness in the finish. Good body, good brew. 9er (29), Delaware, USA
| 4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Jul 23, 2007 This porter has distinct chicory and perhaps espresso flavor at the back of the palate. The aroma summons light pungent molasses. The color is amber and is lightly carbonated. badlizard (2338), Berkeley, California, USA
| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 4/10 | 3/5 | 8/20 | Jul 21, 2007 500 mL bottle. Dark brown with fizzy white head. Roasty, chocolate, aroma with some mild skunk - hey, the light green glass bottle was their choice, not mine. Mostly roasted malt taste, but the skunk leaves this one undrinkable. Damn, I can tell there used to be a good beer in there. truebluehes (104), Tipton, Iowa, USA
