| 4.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Jan 28, 2007 Pours a deep brown, with a thin film and a scant ring of foam. Brilliant clear ruby colors dance in the dimple mug when it is held up to the light. Coffee and dried plum in the aroma - smells quite nice.
A coffee roastiness and a fruity plum are in the flavor too, but they are behind a nice warming bittersweet chocolate flavor. I get roasted grain, more coffee, and a touch of alcohol in the finish. Medium bodied, smooth but not creamy, almost no carbonation. Very mild bitter roasted grain in the aftertaste. jetzler (622), oklahoma city, Oklahoma, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Jan 28, 2007 Bottle, great aroma lots of molasses, and warm malts, very subtle hops. Taste is rich and complex but doesn’t finish too sweet at all, this is the way I like an english porter not too sweet, but still malty and with a full mouth feel. greenhorn1 (460), Mission Viejo, California, USA
| 3.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 15/20 | Jan 26, 2007 Bottle. Pours a dark black with little to no head. After I poured it into the glass and took my first sip, I did not like it at all. It had a strange taste of smoke, wood, and liqorice. However, after a few more sips, this beer grew on me. I think after you pour this beer, let it sit for 5 or 10 minutes beer before you drink it. The nice flavors of subtle smoked coffee and chocolate come out. Decent english porter. hayduke (1629), Eureka, California, USA
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Jan 19, 2007 Updated: Jul 4, 2007This Porter cost $3.85 for sixteen ounce bottle from my local Northcoast Coop here in Eureka, CA.. Poured a very clear mahogany and a small timy bubbled creamy off-white head and nice lacing. Very attractive. Nose was malts and chocolate. Good solid mouthefeel. Flavor was of coffee and dark malts. Finish has light hop bitterness. Taken in total, this was a quite decent English Porter, and was worth buying again at this price. Rooney31 (42), USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 12/20 | Jan 19, 2007 Bottle: As the thin dark brown beer is poured in a glass numerous tiny bubbles form and remain awkwardly ontop. Aroma of roasted malts, chocolate, and bitter hops. Taste is flat. Overall an uninspiring porter. bhensonb (4240), Woodland, California, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Jan 17, 2007 Chocolatey aroma, somewhat backed by hop. Nearly opaqe brown color with a tan head that laces a bit. Starts with a thinnish mouthfeel, but definitely with chocolate. Roasted malt is almost missing, and there is a slight hint of sour (possibly the mature old ale). Eventually some toasted malt is apparent, but not until the liquid has left the mouth. A few sips killed the head, but not the flavor. The Energizer Bunny of porters - the flavor is going and going and going. This porter is a stand out.
