madvike (301), Madison, Wisconsin, USA Jul 16, 2009 Blind tasting - Poured reddish-amber with no head. Smelled of skunk, sugar, vanilla, and grain. Not too appetizing. Taste was better, with smooth malt and vanilla with a touch of brown sugar. It’s medium-bodied and oily, with just a bit of bitter on the finish. I’m not sure if we got a bad bottle, but this stuff wasn’t at all the quality I expected. IDunno19 (78), Ames, Iowa, USA Jul 15, 2009 Pours a dark mahogany color with a tan head (short-lived). Nose full of malt, hops, charcoal, and light coffee. The flavor was a little thin I thought, dominated by the British flavor of choice: hops. Hoppy, malty, light chocolate flavor make this a pretty good beer. Skeegle (476), Maryland, USA Jul 12, 2009 Nice beer that is light and fully roasted. Light sweetness and lots of malts to go with the burnt roast. A nice one. tarjei (1741), Bryne, Norway Jul 8, 2009 50 cl bottle at Øl&Mat09 in Oslo. Dark brown color, beige/tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and dried fruit. Flavor is sweet and fruity with fine chocolate malts. PapaSkeetSkeet (65), , Massachusetts, USA Jun 26, 2009 Aroma contains loads of chocolate, some coffee and burnt sugar notes. Nice. Pours Dark Chocolate brown, tan creamy head. Good Carbonation. Flavor is not nearly as full as aroma suggests, but what is there is good, creamy, chocolaty. Sweetness is well balanced by hops, but again, could be much more pungent. Mmmm I find the words for this review are just coming naturally, good impression. Will get more from this brewer. Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Jun 15, 2009 Pours a dark brown color with a tan head. Roasted malts, chocolate, slight coffee and some caramel malts dominate the aroma. Flavor is roasted malts and chocolate mostly. Subtle tone on the flavor and little carbonation. Good but not my favorite porter by a long shot. larsga (2937), Oslo, Norway Jun 15, 2009 Biggish beige shiny head. Barely translucent dark red body. Sugary caramelly aroma with wooden licorice notes, very harmonic. Dry-sweetish milky licorice taste with roasty resiny notes. Thinnish body. Mild mouthfeel. Dry watery metallic roasty licorice aftertaste. Quite nice, but slightly watery. Could use a bit more body. Should probably be served at room temperature for best results. (0.5l bottle, Olympen, Oslo.) jefcon (997), Arlington, Virginia, USA Jun 12, 2009 Pours a leathery brown color with a slight off-white head. Aromas are nutty, yeasty bread dough, some chocolate, and ripe red fruits. This beer has one of those light, shimmering mouthfeels with a lot of complex flavors. Coffee, chocolate, toasted oats and some acidity. If the palate was as warm and friendly as those flavors, it would be a lot better beer. As it is, not bad.
