Pours a regular brown with absolutely no head despite a vigorous pour. Aroma is surprisingly indistinct, almost nonexistent: a bit of roasted malt, like one would expect, but not much else comes through. Taste comes with an overarching nutty-malt character that is laid over by roast and chocolate...finish is strongly bitter chocolate. Little to no hop character whatsoever. Watery on the tongue. Certainly not a superb porter by any means.

Not a good porter overall. Not complex in taste, not distinctive and not up to the St.Peters name. Find better elsewhere; i.e. samuel smith. Worth a once over, but be prepared.

Bottle. Rich dark amber beer with a tan head. Slight roast and chocolate aroma. Roasty, chocolate flavor. Medium bodied. Well balanced. Lingering roasty caramel.

Aroma kinda weak , Flavor....metal Taste too it(tin).And was Thin on Palate. over All...not too Impressive...........

Poured a deep brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma was sweet, not enough smoky, coffee smell for me. Flavor was also too sweet with a bit of roasted malt, but brown sugar dominates. Watery mouthfeel. Not all that impressive for what I paid for the bottle.

Poured thinly brown with very little head. Dry, smoky aroma. Some bready malts. Flavor reminds me of burnt venison - wood and ashes. Rather limp mouthfeel leaves a little bitter coffee in the mouth, but not much else. Not quite insubstantial, but close.

Botle, poured out somethign just short of opae brown with reddish highlights and a thin off-white head that laced considerably. Nice roast smoky malty and dark chocolate aroma. Very dry toasty flavor and a potent malt body. A little thin on the tongue, but smooth with a nice lingering taste.

In the bottle at the HyVee Oktoberfest beer tasting in Council Bluffs. Dark brown with small/no head with a few large bubbles. Smoke aroma, crisp palate. Flavor is a bit sharp – perhaps this beer is a touch to young, or overhopped for the style.
