BeirBear (2), Terre HAute, Indiana, USA does not count Dec 6, 2006 Aroma kinda weak , Flavor....metal Taste too it(tin). And was Thin on Palate. over All...not too Impressive........... Soonah (900), Tulsa, Oklahoma, USA Dec 4, 2006 Poured a deep brown with a thin off-white head. Aroma was sweet, not enough smoky, coffee smell for me. Flavor was also too sweet with a bit of roasted malt, but brown sugar dominates. Watery mouthfeel. Not all that impressive for what I paid for the bottle. Stine (1380), St. Paul, Minnesota, USA Nov 30, 2006 Updated: Sep 9, 2007Poured thinly brown with very little head. Dry, smoky aroma. Some bready malts. Flavor reminds me of burnt venison - wood and ashes. Rather limp mouthfeel leaves a little bitter coffee in the mouth, but not much else. Not quite insubstantial, but close. kseecs16 (865), Naperville, Illinois, USA Nov 28, 2006 Botle, poured out somethign just short of opae brown with reddish highlights and a thin off-white head that laced considerably. Nice roast smoky malty and dark chocolate aroma. Very dry toasty flavor and a potent malt body. A little thin on the tongue, but smooth with a nice lingering taste. SledgeJr (2957), Omaha, Nebraska, USA Nov 26, 2006 In the bottle at the HyVee Oktoberfest beer tasting in Council Bluffs.
Dark brown with small/no head with a few large bubbles. Smoke aroma, crisp palate. Flavor is a bit sharp – perhaps this beer is a touch to young, or overhopped for the style.
TheGrandMaster (1846), Auckland, New Zealand Nov 23, 2006 Bottle at Jerusalem Tavern in Farringdon (London), a dark ruby colour with an off-white bubbly head. A light smokey aroma, would have loved it to be stronger. A light to medium mouthfeel, good roasted flavours with a hoppy tang. Quite tasty. DockerDan (8), Killaloe, Ireland does not count Nov 20, 2006 Chocolate and Black Cherry is apparant in the nose. The appearence very black with a tight off-white head. The finish is quite short and overal a little thin for this style. DJC (238), USA Nov 19, 2006 Nice, rich color, but very little head. Faint lace. Semi-sweet, stale coffee aroma and taste. Grassy notes, as well. Quite bitter finish. Not a real good example of this style.
