porterhouse (1148), Alna, Maine, USA Mar 8, 2006 (500 ml bottle from <A HREF=http://www.ratebeer.com/Place/maine/freeport/derosier’s/4797.htm target=blank>Derosier’s) This pours a dark cola color, with a small biscuit head with big bubbles. Poor lacing. Aroma is coffee, some chocolate, hint of sour. Mouthfeel fairly full, pretty smooth but a touch prickly. Flavor is basically black coffee with some chocolate. Finishes bitter. Also getting grassiness in finish. Not bad except for grassiness and rather lackluster appearance. ruggedman (613), Portland, Maine, USA Mar 8, 2006 Dark brown beer with some lacing. Initial taste is slightly coffee, trails off with the same bittersweet chocolate taste of their cream stout. Actually tastes a lot like the cream stout and english ale mixed. I enjoyed this beer, although it was a bit watery. Still a solid porter offering. demdeac40 (238), Etowah, North Carolina, USA Mar 1, 2006 Pours a very dark amber, to translucent for my taste. Very little head. Aroma is great with chocolate, coffee and a little smoke. Palate is thinner than I remember. Still a good beer but I had it years ago and remembered it more fondly. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Feb 24, 2006 Poured translucent dark brown with no head. Sweet dark grape aroma with some soy sauce and a hint of coffee. Quite smooth really, but not exceptional OhioDad (2491), Hilliard, Ohio, USA Feb 19, 2006 500ml - poured dark brown with absolutely no head. Aromas of roasted malt, peat, and smoke. Flavor was light coffee, roasted malts, a touch of chocolate, smoke. No hops found in this one.. Palate thin and on the watery side without carbonation... RAYBOY01 (1813), Chicago, Illinois, USA Feb 12, 2006 Love-hate! Love the rich roasted aromas...very classic porter territory here...roasted malt and smoke. Decent enough flavors...chocolate/brown sugar/cocoa/smoke. But, then a pretty prominent astringincy in the finish seems to linger and taint my earlier memories of this one. Thin bodied and a touch watered-down which didn’t help much. Appearance: brown ruby color with thin tan head. Aroma: chocolate, coffee. Flavor: sweetness, light ecoffee.
