DrunkenWeasel (218), Portland, Oregon, USA Jan 19, 2006 Pours black with a thin off-white head. Smells of malt and barley and a light hint of caramel. Taste is very similar but somewhat bland and watered down. Aftertaste is short lived and watery. Decent but nothing fantastic. Jine (889), Nutley, New Jersey, USA Jan 18, 2006 1.14.06. Felt like 1906 with this bottle. Pretty solid porter, not the best in it’s category but decent enough for some cowboys to light their fires with on a cold windy Pennsylvania night. ezra456 (39), Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA Jan 17, 2006 pours out black with red highlights. thick fluffy, beige head that dissipated quickly. very nice lacing. nose consisted of plum, caramel, burnt sugar, coffee, and roasted barley. flavors blended together very nicely. started off smooth and ended smooth, ended on a very nice bitter sweet note. flavors consisted of dark chocolate, coffee, and roasted barley. reminded me more of a nice dry stout. didn’t have the raisin/date taste to it, which was nice. very nice beer, defenitely recomended. ThomasE (5179), Copenhagen, Denmark Jan 16, 2006 Deep brown, almost black colour with a small tan head. Roasted malty aroma with a light chocolate sweetness and a faint liquorice note. Roasted malty flavor with a light coffee bitterness and a weak liquorice note. AdamSkillin (376), High Bridge, New Jersey, USA Jan 14, 2006 Awesome porter, lots of chocolate in the nose and mouth, hops just right for the style. Also comes in an awesome bottle that looks like it’s from the Old West. Great beer. guzzler67 (1272), Hanover, Maryland, USA Jan 12, 2006 Ruby to dark brown appearance with a very thin head. Roasted malt aroma with hints of coffee. Medium bodied mouthfeel that had a dry, earthy finish. A pleasant, standard, not overly complex porter that I’m happy to have tried, but at least in my small corner of the world, there are plenty of fresher, less expensive, locally made examples of the style to which I will continue to return. Sully (1367), Woolloomooloo, New South Wales, Australia Jan 9, 2006 Another medicine bottle offerng from St Peters. They present well but regrettably the packaging does not necessarily mean the contents are great. Given that this was the same night my sample also had the same quality of head as a French aristocrat during h the revolution. If this were a coffee it would have been a decap, er caf. Anyway the message is clear. There was no nose of note either so it couldn’t be classed as having a Bill Lawry character either. I’m getting bored of this review as I k now I’m rambling. This is one of those porters that give the style a bad name as all of the necessasry hallmarks are either nondescript or missing entirely. Likerighteous (120), Pflugerville, Texas, USA Jan 7, 2006 Absolutely headless. Totally cool medicine bottle. Mad mocha prune granola bar taste. Got better and better as it warmed. I’d have scored it much higher if it had but a bubble.
