Medium bodied mouthfeel that had a dry, earthy finish. A pleasant, standard, not overly complex porter that I’m happy to have tried, but at least in my small corner of the world, there are plenty of fresher, less expensive, locally made examples of the style to which I will continue to return. They present well but regrettably the packaging does not necessarily mean the contents are great. Given that this was the same night my sample also had the same quality of head as a French aristocrat during h the revolution. If this were a coffee it would have been a decap, er caf. Anyway the message is clear. There was no nose of note either so it couldn’t be classed as having a Bill Lawry character either. I’m getting bored of this review as I k now I’m rambling. This is one of those porters that give the style a bad name as all of the necessasry hallmarks are either nondescript or missing entirely. Likerighteous (120), Pflugerville, Texas, USA

Got better and better as it warmed. I’d have scored it much higher if it had but a bubble. oldrtybastrd (1801), Morlautern, Germany/Great Falls, Montana, USA

Flavor is big chocolate, a touch of coffee. Medium body witha creamy feel. Bittersweet chocolate finish and aftertaste. Like a tootsie roll. ehhdayton (1113), USA
| 2.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 9/20 | Jan 3, 2006 There is a chocolate aroma and a deep rich black appearance but very little head. The taste has a roasted chocolate overtone but the finish on the palate is both weak and watery. highlandlad (1258), Sydney, Australia
| 3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 3, 2006 A smooth, unremarkable English porter. Poured a clear dark brown with no head at all. Not a sausage. The aroma reminded me a bit of the Wentworth Oatmeal Stout earlier in the same tasting - lots of fusel alcohols, charcoal, bitter chocolate. Thin to medium body. Very smooth, sweetish flavour profile - sweet dark chocolate. No rough edges to this one. (Bottle, RateBeer Sydney Xmas gathering 2005) dwyerpg (2529), Las Vegas, Nevada, USA

Sweet but dry and odd-flavored at the finish. I don’ know what makes this old-style, other than it does have a slightly oldtaste to it (in a good way), but it makes it a pretty good porter to me. | 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 30, 2005 Pours a deep dark brown with a nice tan head that diminishes quickly. Aroma of malt with faint chocolate and a dash of hops. The body is very light with slight carbonation only detectable at the finish. Subtle flavors of hops, malt, coffee and dark chocolate.
Good.
