RooftopRogue (423), Champaign, Illinois, USA Dec 17, 2005 The aroma is a disturbing one of smoke and prunes. This beer is brownish-black in color with not much more than archipelagos of suds as a head. The taste is a mild creamy coffee taste that fades fast. Papsoe (14642), Frederiksberg, Denmark Dec 10, 2005 (Bottle 50 cl) Pitch black with a reddish hue. Handsome, creamy head that sticks to my glass. Distinct notes of burned malts, coffee and bitter chocolate - all the right characteristics for a good porter. Dry, fairly light-bodied and very drinkable. An aromatic and pleasant porter. 181201 julrey (32), Indianapolis, Indiana, USA Dec 9, 2005 Pours deep caramel brown with medium carbonation and minimal head retention.
Smells of heavy caramel and malt.
Thin, runny coffee up front. Finishes more or less the same way she started. In other words, not a whole lot going on except for a solid blend of roasted coffee, heavy malt and a sticky caramel coating on the tongue and lips.
A pretty solid porter but nonetheless lacking an identity of it’s own. Would go best with a meal of smoked meats or a chocolate dessert, where the beer would complement the food rather than have to rely on it’s own merits. beervana (781), Libertyville, Illinois, USA Dec 7, 2005 500 mL green flask bottle purchased from Home Service Beer Beverage Discount Center, Glenview, NY. Black hued ale having tiny diminishing off-white head. No discernable carbonation. Roasted malt aroma. Thin bodied ale that starts dry with intensely roasted malt bitterness and finishes dry with lingering bitterness. A rather thin bodied, bitter watery beer, this beer was tough to drink. KnutAlbert (3111), Oslo, Norway Dec 6, 2005 More of a burnt/roasted flavour than their other porter. Malty aromatic, but with a hoppy finish. asheft (1374), Marburg, Germany Nov 15, 2005 [bottle like in the picture]
Dark, brownish red with little dots of fizz and a thin ring. Very chocolatey toast with a subtle hint of malt aroma accentuated by british hops. Flavour gentle toasty, roasty malt accentuated by a balanced, chocolatey sweetness and malt bitterness throughout. A bit of that sour/young flavour. Medium body with low carbonation and a lasting choclatey malt bitterness. DerWeg (750), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 12, 2005 Flask bottle. A very fine presentation, refreshing with a three dimensional character.Tan cap over deep clear brown body. Medium intense hops balance well with roasty malt. Well worth a try and the first St. Peter’s I would buy again. It is what it should be I think. joergen (8430), Frederiksberg, Denmark Nov 12, 2005 Bottled.
