0o9i (326), Reno, Nevada, USA Jul 30, 2005 Bottled. Clear brown pour and a deep mohogany color in the glass. Head is creamy and light tan, blanketing the glass. Lacing decreases with time, becoming more spread out and creating a neat effect. Aroma is molasses, prunes, maybe a hint of soy, yeasty dough, chocolatey notes and coffee beomes stronger as it warms up. Roasted oats, apple, caramel. Body is around light/medium with interesting carb! It’s very soft, foamy and the bubbles remain suspended in the mouth--unbroken and gradually popping, even after you swallow--leaving behind a solidly dry finish. Finish becomes somewhat watery as beer warms. Flavor is unbalanced from front to finish--hops all the way, but still moderately bitter. Fruity notes, plumb, prune, apple skin, touch of caramel--the malty undertones. Bitter is woody, coffee, lightly roasted, touch of grapefruit rind, some baker’s chocolate, some milk chocolate, some oats. Altogether the "old ale" part of this is very noticable: dark fruits, pale malts, lightly malted. Now I want a nice oat stout (lots of oat character). Pleasant and drinkable, but not what I really expect from a porter. Body is pretty light. Old Ale + Oat Stout. jmuhops (663), Winchester, Virginia, USA Jul 30, 2005 Pours nearly black with a one-finger off-white head. Strong coffee aroma. Light coffee flavor with some chocolate and an intrusive bitterness at the end. Very creamy, but that bitterness is a turn-off. Walt (2289), Chicago, Illinois, USA Jul 21, 2005 Pour is black with some dark brown and ruby to it with a nice dense tan head...smell is roasty coffee and cocoa...delicious aroma...taste is roasty and rich for a porter with cocoa and coffee all through it...quick clean finish with no lingering bitterness...extra palate point for that, as that is the thing I dislike most about Porters and Stouts...it is difficult to move on to a lighter style of beer afterwards...this was good, but far from great... cAPSLOCK (154), Dallas, Texas, USA Jul 18, 2005 Pours opaque dark brown with very little head. The aroma is smokey malts. Has a stragely thin mouthfeel, but a wonderful toasty, smokey, sweet and bitter flavor. Good amount of hop presence. Better earthy/smokey/coffee finish. Lou18 (1353), West Paterson, New Jersey, USA Jul 17, 2005 bottle, poured dark and clear, tan head. Yeast and chocolate aroma. Flvaor was sweet , candy and chcolate. Bit thin. SuIIy (1406), Jamaica Plain, Massachusetts, USA Jul 15, 2005 Bottle from a friend. Pours a transparent dark brown color with a small tan head. Nose is coffee and malty. taste is watery with some notes of malt, coffee and a "dry" chocolate feel. bu11zeye (5430), Frisco, Texas, USA Jul 14, 2005 (Bottle) Pours a dark brown body with a medium-sized creamy tan head. Aroma of sweet malt and toasted bread. Flavor of roasted malt, marshmellow, and light coffee. Medium bodied with a creamy, soft carbonation, and a somewhat bitter finish. harrisoni (6704), Ashford, Kent, England Jul 8, 2005 Updated: Feb 26, 2007Cask at Jeruselum Tavern London
