beerinmarch (2781), Alabama, USA May 1, 2005 From the flask-looking bottle this smooth porter pours red/brown with a light tan head. A rich chocolate nose and roasty malts give the sweet flavor that follows through in the taste, balanced nicely with a light hopping in the finish. Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Apr 28, 2005 Bottle: Roasted coffee, chocolate, light nuttiness, and lighter wood aroma. Pours a dark brown with red hilights. Chocolate, lightly roasted coffee, and lightly nutty. LIght bitterness in the finish with some coffee. Kind of a porter and brown ale combination. spikee (96), Providence, Rhode Island, USA Apr 8, 2005 Heavy, ultra sweet caramel, nut, and honey nose. Deep dark, ruby red with a very thin head and trace lacing. Very flat, very sweet and malty. Zero carbonation. Syrupy. Slightly astringent flavor - not necessarily bad but just enough to remind you of the alcohol. A decent porter offering overall, though I don’t know that I’d go out of my way to find it again. HopsformyHips (113), Memphis, Tennessee, USA Mar 27, 2005 I thought this was a good standard of an average typical porter. Quickly diminishing head. Dark clear, but somewhat thin pour. The bottle was just neat. It was aparently developed in 1770. Nutty aroma with a slightly astringint flavor. Malty yet slightly burnt flavor. Nothing extreme, but just a good porter specimin. estoppel (1028), Buffalo, New York, USA Mar 26, 2005 Somewhat transparent reddish-brown body, small tan head, anise and sweet molasses in the nose with a touch of smoke. Slightly salty, slighty smoky, sweet with bitterness, a little burnt. Decent. 2philosophers (16), Ridgewood, New York, USA Mar 19, 2005 Got this at American Beer Distributor in Brooklyn, bless them. Cool green oval bottle. This pours dark brown, but with almost no head-- it took a few seconds for anything to appear. Chocolate head. Coffee aroma. Taste is strong at first but finishes weak with almost no aftertaste. Strong coffee, molasses, burnt grain flavors. Not as thick as you would expect it to be. Darn tasty, though. presario (2953), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Mar 17, 2005 Bottle. Very dark with almost no head. Licorice and molasses aroma. Light sweet start but very strong lasting black strap molasses finish. Other flavours appear periodically such as coffee and chocolate. An interesting beer if the molasses doesn’t send you running. Fish (439), Kure, Japan Mar 17, 2005 Dark, dark reddish brown color with a medium, frothy, light brown head. Smokey aroma. Starts out maltier with an ever-so-slightly bitter finish. The oval-shaped green bottle is definitely very sexy too.
