darkerdabetter (255), Michigan, USA May 6, 2004 Nice bottle created a nice poor, but somewhat light in appearance and flavor. I initially liked this quite a bit, with decent chocolate flavor, until it was outdone by a Founder’s. Mungo (2474), Southampton, Hampshire, England May 5, 2004 Cask conditioned and reading Beer Festival. Roast malt aroma and liqourice. Sweet almondy tast with some vinous notes. MaxPower (961), St. Louis, Missouri, USA May 4, 2004 Light brown in color, small creamy light tan head that doesn’t last, aroma of dark roasted coffee and malts. Light body, thin and watery mouthfeel. Smokey coffee and chocolate flavors, with a light smokey burnt bitterness in the finish, some what watery, very drinkable. pantani (1894), Salinas, California, USA May 3, 2004 Very thin mouthfeel for a porter. Nice coffee, cocoa, hazelnut taste to it, just is far from having a proper thickness, feels thinner then water. Nice tan head, pretty, but thin. walleye (876), Sterling Heights, Michigan, USA Apr 30, 2004 bought this for the bottle glad I did nice dark color very little head malty and chocolate with a nice slight bitter finish heemer77 (4294), Savannah, Missouri, USA Apr 25, 2004 The bottle is the best thing about this lame brew. There is a deep roasted coffee and some roast beef in the aroma. A slight scum of head on top with lots of carbonation making it look like a cola. The tate is coffee with off flavors of raisin and roast beef. A very thin mouthfeel. Unimpressive overall. Beer Snob (378), Ontario, Canada Apr 24, 2004 Updated: Oct 10, 2005Opaque black - looks like a cola without the heavy carbonation. Almost headless. Smell is full yet subtle, some toasted chocolate in the nose. Taste is very nice - burnt malt mixed with a chocolaty sweetness. Light carbonation, substantial but not thick. Nicely balanced, good flavour with a light, nice bitter aftertaste. A very well done porter. Full marks. Alcoholist (570), Peoria, Illinois, USA Apr 24, 2004 Dark with no head. Aroma is roasted malts and smoke. Flavour is salty, smokey and quite unpleasent. Salt is for nuts, not beer.
