Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
This fine beer is a blend of a mature old ale with a younger light beer - just as a true Porter should be. The marriage produces an extremely characterful brew which is dark in colour and complex in taste.

16.9 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Stamped 8142. Pours a deep copper color with a medium head. Average head retention and lacing. Aroma is chocolate primary with slight roasted malts and tobacco. Taste is bitter roasted malts with coffee and chocolate notes. Some subtle tobacco here as well. Medium bodied.

Not sure what was wrong with the one I had, but it was nasty. The immediate smell from the bottle was skunky. The only reason it was drunk was because it was already in my glass. Oh, well at least I tried it.

Pours a clear, dark-complexioned brown with little head. The bottle is wonderfully nostalgiac. Smells like pumpernickel bread and coffee. Has the sweet, burnt aroma of an old and oft-used coffee pot. A bit tart, not too bitter. This beer is rich and dark and enigmatic. Tastes of coffee, cocoa, au jous, black licorice, raisins. Medium carbonation with a delicate mouthfeel; mildly hopped. This is a damn good porter, and quite different than American offerings.

Pours black with a tan head. Three words about this beer: coffee, chocolate, malt. Nothing groundbreaking, but tastes like a porter. Just a tad of hops at the end. Nice.

Pours like a nut brown ale from the bottle with a frothy off-white head. Smells of char and hazelnut. Tastes of both with additional notes of wood chips, bakers cocoa, and tart cherry. Not bad at all.

Bottle, bought at Cockneys, Aarhus. My 4,200th rating! Pours great, clear mahogany with a nice, medium, creamy, off-white head. Fine duration, light lacing. Soft sweet aroma, light roasted, raisins and a touch of burnt maltiness. Some wood and liquorice as well. Low carbonation, just a tad thinish. Flavour begind quite sweet with caramel, then develops nicely towards a more fruity and roasted malts base. Great, long, dry and roasted aftertaste.

[bottle] Dark ruby colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Moderately sweet and roasted malty aroma with chocolate, licorice and a touch of mocha, accompanied by a shy and fruity, slightly spicy hoppy touch. Moderately bitter flavour, medium to light bodied with an almost crispy carbonation. Slightly burnt malty taste with licorice, coffee and subtle dark berry-fruity notes; moderately dry roasty bitter finish. Quaffable Porter, that might lack a bit body [13.XII.08].
