yespr (11649), Copenhagen O, Denmark Nov 18, 2008 50 cL bottle. Pours dark brown to black with a lacing tan head. Aroma is roasted malt and breadish. Mild acidic and vague fruity note. Roasted malty and light acidic. Lingering roasted malty finish. A bit on the simple side. 502Flavors (617), Louisville, Kentucky, USA Nov 17, 2008 1.9 oz. bottle into shaker (P.S. I really like St.Peters bottles and caps). As it falls from the bottle neck it is a light brown, lark a dark tea, and thin. As it sits in the glass, it has a great creamy lacing lasting light brown head, but the body is just a really hazy dark dark brown. I don’t know if I am being unfair by saying this, but my porters and stouts need to be black. The aroma is really simple very inviting - roasted malt with a great sweet balance to it, almost reminiscent of belgian candi sugar. It works well. The sweetness has developed into a very pleasant cherry aroma. Here goes. Flavor reflects only a hint of the sweetness that the aroma does, and it shows up mostly on the finish - raisins and cherries. Aside from that, it is a simple roasted porter. Solid, but a bit thinner and lighter than a porter should be (again, I might be being unfair here... be being?... whatever). Very little very subtle carbonation (I like this traditional approach) but not much mouth-feel, a bit watery. Overall: very solid, but seems to offer so much potential that id doesn’t quite stand up to - should be darker, and thicker. Still good though. The more I drink, the more I am picking up some faint earthy bittering hops on the finish DrDavid (957), Johnson, Vermont, USA Oct 29, 2008 (Bottle). Sweetish malty aroma. Deep brown body, decent light brown head. Taste is pleasant, fruity with some hoppiness and roasted quality. A bit overly mild, and somewhat thin. But certainly an ok porter. Chrism86 (273), Melbourne, Australia Oct 20, 2008 Pours dark brown with mahogany highlights. Off white to tan coloured head that persists for the duration of the glass. Aromas are relatively reserved, some roasted coffee with hints of honey and treacle. Palate more or less mirrors the nose and is medium bodied. Significant dark malt presence drives a slightly bitter and astringent palate with the treacle and honey dimensions adding some additional malt sweetness and balance. Finish is long and malty. fidel (887), Livermore, California, USA Oct 7, 2008 Dark Brown, roasted malts, coffee, little chocolate, little dark fruits, little caramel. Aquilo (249), California, USA Oct 6, 2008 Dark color, almost black, but if you hold it up to the light, it has some red highlights. Smell seem to be all wrong, though. At first, there was some sulfery bottle stink. I usually ignore this, since it’s common in imports, and it tends to go away after you pour it. But I wasn’t expecting this from a porter. Then the stink began to give way to an overbearing roasted malt aroma. Perhaps roasted is being too nice. It frankly smells burnt. The flavor is much better, but I still think that the malt is overbearing here. There is a little bit of dried fruit and possibly chocolate, and I would like to taste that more. It just doesn’t come through past the malt. gam (1068), brisbane, Australia Sep 19, 2008 Light tan head, good carbonation in a very dark red/brown pour.Aroma caramel, maltness, chocolate, honey, fruit.Flavour, dry fruity, bitter, malt to smooth the tastes, chocolate, caramel, citric peel, plenty of flavour in the porter.Tangy and dry at the finish.
