Chocolate and hazelnut aroma. Dark brown in appearance with fluffy tan head. Flavor is a bit tart, baking chocolate, and molasses. Chewy but light-medium body. Very good.

Jan 5, 2010 Bottle via coldbrewky for beer tasting. Love these English bottles buddy! Dark brown porter with ruby highlights, a light tan head sits atop and diminishes quickly. While this was toward the end of our beer tasting event (hence my state of mind), I noticed as I was drinking it down, a Salvador Dali painting emerged on the sides of my glass in the form of tan sticky lacing. Beautiful. For the most part the nose was vanilla and toffee. Roasted malt and chocolate are the flavors that stick out most to me, also a bit of an earthy spice towards the finish.

Dec 27, 2009 500mL bottle, not date. Pours deep reddish brown with almost no head, nothing in the way of retention and a bit of lacing. Some mineral and dark roast in the aroma, little hint of stale coffee. Cheap dark chocolate, some crystal malt and sharp bitterness. Very thin.

Dec 13, 2009 500 ml bottle sampled@RBNAG 2009, Cardinal. Dark, reddish brown body with a thin off-white head. Aroma is light, refreshing fruity with smooth roast malt. Flavor is smooth malty, light burnt, fruity, a hint of coffee and balanced bitter. Medium body, easy to drink and very pleasant without being outstanding.

Dec 6, 2009 Bottle poured into my Guinness English Pint glass. Dark dark brown pour with a tall tan creamy head. Smells of some sweet chocolate and lots of bread and yeast. Feels a little thin. Taste is high roasted malts, some burnt feelings with ash. A little chocolate sneaks through but very little. Aftertaste is all burnt rolls. Not bad but the aftertaste is just too ashy bitter.

Dec 1, 2009 From bottle@Cardinal, Stavanger. A firm, mediumsized beige head upon a clear, deep mahogny colored body. Lightly roasted malt aroma along with a slight acidic, plummy and berry-ish fruitiness. Taste is fairly dry, roasted malty with a sourish twist. Berry-fruitiness again, and notes of toffee, bitter coffee and earthy hops. Medium body strenght. Slick in the mouth. Dry malty, slight acidulous, and gently bitter finish. Solid and straightforward.

Nov 27, 2009 Aroma of aged coffee with an unexpected hop presence. Appearance is dark brown with a creamy chocolate head. Flavor is roasted coffee with dark chocolate and an undercurrent of hops that is not common in many porters. Palate is bubbly and somewhat lively. An interesting brew in a normally mundane category.

Nov 26, 2009 Not too shabby. Has a roasted nut flavor that also gives off a little bit of a creamy feel. The color is nice and black, with no foam. Pretty decent.
