COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask: Regular. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
Hops: Challenger and Goldings.
This fine beer is a blend of a mature old ale with a younger light beer - just as a true Porter should be. The marriage produces an extremely characterful brew which is dark in colour and complex in taste.

Aroma was ok. I donít know what a "old style porter" is supposed to taste like, all I know is that I didnít like it. Way too sweet with a strong maltiness that overwhelms the palate. I donít know what it is about this brewery and malt. This and the IPA are like watered down barley wineís! Maybe they donít fair well travelling all the way from England to the USA.

AparÍnca with dark color (almost black) and low foaming. Aroma of medium roasted malt (caramel, dried fruit, etc.). Malty flavor with, but also hops. a good balance. Excellent Porter.

16.9 oz green bottle served in a Unibroue snifter (from March 2012 notes). A: Pours a clear, dark reddish brown with a small off-white head that soon dies down to a lasting island and ring; leaves spotty lacing. S: Exceptionally pleasant mix of dark fruit + chocolate + roasted malt + baked bread + a dash of spicy hops. Excellent if more subdued than I wish, given the great quality. T: Plenty of rich, roasted malt flavor here, but thatís not all. ... This is surprisingly hoppy for a English porter; enough to leave it very nicely spicy and slightly bitter. Nice roasty aftertaste. M: moderate carbonation; enough to leave the medium-body smooth but lively. Light dryness in the finish. O: A very well-crafted brew that should be sought out by fans of porters.

Bottle at home from backlog notes 07. Pours a reddish brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have mild roasted malts, chocolate, a hint of tart fruit, light herbal hops, mild bitterness to the finish, light bodied, ok but the stout is better.

Aroma is not very good.....I'm getting over a cold but it just doesn't get high points from me. I love these bottles. They're like old medicine bottles. I'm not a big fan of the beers inside though....lol. I had a grapefruit ale the other night and it wasn't a stunner either. Just not refined enough. Glad I tried it, but not going to get it again ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle at The Fiddler, Den Haag. Poured a clear dark brown with a frothy white head. The aroma is red berry fruit, roasted malt. The flavour is medium bitter, light sweet with a smooth caramel, fruit, light hop bitter palate but with a lingering bitter finish. Medium bodied with average carbonation.

Dark beer, with some sweetish malty notes of coffee and cacao. Not very complex, quite easy to drink.

Bottle. Aroma dry roasted and chocolate. Quite dry. Clear very dark colour. Off-white head. Taste is again quite dry from the beginning. Roasted and dark chocolate, somewhat simple, but really effective and tasty. Easily drinkable with a dry roasted finish.
