Commercial Description:
Cask; Regular. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
This fine beer is a blend of a mature old ale with a younger light beer - just as a true Porter should be. The marriage produces an extremely characterful brew which is dark in colour and complex in taste.

Dark brown pour with a light tan head, big roasty aroma, hints of dark fruit and chocolate. Taste is syrupy, heavy roast, plums, maple syrup, brown sugar, caramel and chocolate.

Pour is a dark brown with a tan head. Aroma is nice with dark chocolate and butterscotch. Flavor is a big let down. Starts smooth but finish is tart and watery. Nothng real great and the cream stout is much better.

Very dark mahagony pour with a sizable head that left quickly. Chocolate, roasts, and a bit of smoke underlying. Grapes in the nose as well. Now the smoke is dominant in the flavors. Underneath the smoke is more of the roast and chocolate malts. Small fruits as well. Kind of a watery palate and thin bodied. Finishes with malt and smoke. Good porter.

From dhrjericho. Pours a deep dark brown color. Aromas of chocolate, dark fruits. Flavor is big chocolate, a touch of coffee. Medium body witha creamy feel. Bittersweet chocolate finish and aftertaste. Like a tootsie roll.

500ml bottle from Majestic. Deep chestnut brown; rich caramel malt aroma; smooth smokey roasted malt flavour; dry coffee finish. Rather one-dimensional.

Had to fight like hell to get a head on this beer. Large bubbles which did not last long. Swirling produces a nice thin foam. Nice roasted aroma. Roasted grains, burnt fried fish sticks and a good helping of licorice. Color is a deep port. Flavor is a bit watery and gritty. Tastes like there is some carbon present. Distinct burnt flavor with a bit of molasses. Finish is dry and smooth. Lingering bitterness and roasted flavor. Great aroma but is a little short in the flavor department. Thanks to radiomgb for this one!

Pours deep mahogany into a stem glass. Mocha head quickly subsides to skim rim and hug sides. Burnt chocolate and espresso aromas. Creamy with a medium body. Upfront sweet chocolate and a lasting bitter coffee finish.

The packaging is tremendous, but this is no mere window dressing. A rich dark ruby color in appearance with a fine lasting gorgeous bone head, lots of lace. Bitter chocoalte aromas but subtle in both these components. Mineralized, earthy, ironlike, chocolate (subdued), walnut dust on your fingers after cracking, chalk dust - these are all part of the flavor profile. Great heaps of wonderfully restrained bitterness. Fantastic - a little less smooth than the Brakspear Vintage 1999, but in some ways better for it. Fans of English beers will want this, I think.
