3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from World Market in Nashville, TN that my wife brought home as a surprise. Thanks! Pours a deep brown with a foamy tan head and good lacing. Aroma of wet grains and roast. Medium bodied approaching soft carbonation. Flavor of chocolate, caramel, and nutty grains. Finish is semi dry, bitter, with a touch of tobacco and tea, with some astringency. A decent example of a brown porter that has lots of British character. I would have preferred a little more sweetness and a tamer finish, but much better than I was expecting.

50cl bottle. Served at 10degC. Pors pitch black with stout-like head. Malty, plesantly bitter with heavy roasted grains taste. A bit of chocolate and some cinamon. Medium bodied beer, but was quite powdery and dry in the middle. Simple, easy-drinking beer. Beautiful example of porter.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
16.9 oz green bottle served in a Unibroue snifter (from March 2012 notes).
A: Pours a clear, dark reddish brown with a small off-white head that soon dies down to a lasting island and ring; leaves spotty lacing.
S: Exceptionally pleasant mix of dark fruit + chocolate + roasted malt + baked bread + a dash of spicy hops. Excellent if more subdued than I wish, given the great quality.
T: Plenty of rich, roasted malt flavor here, but that’s not all. ... This is surprisingly hoppy for a English porter; enough to leave it very nicely spicy and slightly bitter. Nice roasty aftertaste.
M: moderate carbonation; enough to leave the medium-body smooth but lively. Light dryness in the finish.
O: A very well-crafted brew that should be sought out by fans of porters.

Bottle at home from backlog notes 07. Pours a reddish brown color with a small beige head. The aroma and flavor have mild roasted malts, chocolate, a hint of tart fruit, light herbal hops, mild bitterness to the finish, light bodied, ok but the stout is better.

Aroma is not very good.....I'm getting over a cold but it just doesn't get high points from me. I love these bottles. They're like old medicine bottles. I'm not a big fan of the beers inside though....lol. I had a grapefruit ale the other night and it wasn't a stunner either. Just not refined enough. Glad I tried it, but not going to get it again

Dark beer, with some sweetish malty notes of coffee and cacao. Not very complex, quite easy to drink.
