doubelknv3 (559), Illinois, USA Feb 15, 2007 A cloudy, golden / orange with a frothy head. Nice sweet citrus, malt aroma. Good balance of bitter and sweetness. Farily smooth sailing with a mild bitter finish. wilderthanyou (410), Guelph, Ontario, Canada Feb 11, 2007 Golden hazy color, practically no head, very slight hoppy aroma. Bitter and hoppy. Not a real big fan. But not bad. Wouldn’t buy it again, but certainly would drink it if it were free. Just discontinued at my local LCBO, so i’ll probably never see it again. Glad I tried it, but I won’t miss it. tomthompson89 (1460), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Feb 9, 2007 light coloured, sorta bitter but quite bland, could down alot of this without ever noticing, DarkStar22769 (100), Ontario, Canada Feb 5, 2007 A soft malt nose greets the quaffer...very much an understated hoppiness that lingers just on the outskirts of the aroma. There’s a haze here which I am not too crazy about...but aside from that it is a golden colour with little head. The flavour has that transported, English ale in a clear bottle taste; it’s a little distracting but moving past that it consists of some caramel and some drying hoppiness. The palate is biting but mellows with time. Overall, it’s a good ale. I wish I could have rated it better but not today. JB175 (1654), Bucks County, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 4, 2007 Hazy orange-amber color with a foamy white head - looks pretty good in a classic English pint. Somewhat earthy malt aromas mix with a unique hop aroma - kind of dumbed down though. Taste has a nice soft bitterness to it with a raw grainy malt taste. Finishes OK, but seems to come up short as a total package, as the aftertaste is less than pleasant. Overall, very drinkable but nothing to get all that excited about. detroiter (958), Euphoria, Minnesota, USA Jan 28, 2007 Pours a lightly hazed amber with about an inch of nearly-white foam. No lacing. Mild hops in the aroma.
There is a tasty, peat-like flavor up front. This is followed by a smoth, medium-sweet maltiness, and then an almost but not quite spicy hop presence. Pleasant tart hops in the finish. The beer has a medium body that balances nicely with the hops. bhensonb (4187), Woodland, California, USA Jan 20, 2007 Refreshing light aroma of lemon hop. Hazy golden amber color with a minimal white head. Starts with a honey tinge, quickly followed by malt, and then very definite citrus hop. Malt and hop play back and forth, and after awhile a slight sour note seems to rise. Not bad, just different. Overall the finish seems to be a very nice bitter. hayduke (1620), Eureka, California, USA Jan 19, 2007 Updated: Aug 27, 2008Mine was labeled St Peters English Ale and cost $3.85 for a 500 ml bottle from my local Northcoast Coop here in Eureka, CA. Poured an interesting orange to light amber color with a small white head that left mnimal lacing. Nose was very mild, and was of hops and citurs. Flavor was mild as well and again was hops, with malts and a citurs tinge. Mouthfeel mild and finish a slight bitterness. Actually not bad to drink,
and worth trying once, but overpriced in my location.
Update: price as risen to $4/25 as on 8.26.08.
