KingofCastle (202), London, Ontario, Canada Jun 6, 2006 500 mL bottle. If you like ales, you will appreciate this beer. This is a well-balanced, tasty ale with medium to light body that will not overwhelm you with a bitter finish. It has a smell/taste of something sweet & light (like a pear or apricot) as well as definite caramel or toffy (this is not flowery wording, you can actually smell & taste it - if you don’t believe me, pour & let it sit 15 minutes). Not too many ales out there you can call refreshing but this is one for sure! Fruit beer & Wheat beer lovers might like this cross-over into ales. OldMrCrow (1179), Seattle, Washington, USA Jun 3, 2006 From the bottle (gotta love that bottle), labelled as St. Peter’s English Ale.
Pours a light amber with a limited head. The aroma is grassy British hops and caramel malt; the flavor is butter toffee, a hint of apricot, a hint of nuts, a reasonable bitter finish as the hops kick in. The palate is right on for the style.
I like this beer. It’s a fairly subtle style, and it comes in fairly heavy with the toasted malts, but it works, all the way through. Well done. HazelRah (276), Summerland, British Columbia, Canada May 31, 2006 Pours a caramel cascade. Average english malt flavour a la old speckled hen. Notes of caramel, butter. Refreshing and quite fresh-tasting. blueduk (118), Eugene, Oregon, USA May 27, 2006 Another old tasting I just found...judging by some other reviews, I must have been lucky to get a bottle in good condition.
The beer pours cloudy orange with a fizzy white head which presently recedes leaving a bit of lacing.
Aromas are straw and hay, grass, flowers, and some orange fruity hops. The hop aromas really dominate.
Standard English ale malt and hop flavors and an aftertaste which is soft and bitter. I’d have it again. 505 (271), Echo Park, California, USA May 26, 2006 Poured a nice golden-orange, more head than others seemed to get. Had lots of aroma, hops, corn?, a bit of skunkiness, not sure if I like the aroma or not. Hits bitter, with some sweetness, and some lingering bitterness. Had nice body. It had lots of flavor and aroma, but I didn’t like it all that much. Not a bad beer, but nothing to rave about. LadyCooper (100), Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada May 22, 2006 Pours a lovely orange-red with almost no head. A bit watery and a little skunky, but still has a good smoky, citursy taste. Great bottle and design, though. WISEGUY572 (1244), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2006 Hazy almost cloudy gold, with no more head than a glass of apple juice. In fact, it looks like apple juice. Sweet malt and British hops predominate in the taste, making me think of what Bass Ale must have been like some time ago. Great looking unusual glass bottle, and much better than their Cream Stout. I did like the hop intensity. kimcgolf (824), Dacula, Georgia, USA May 17, 2006 Pours to a golfden orange, with thin off-white head, and good lacing. Aroma of citrus fruit, mostly oranges, and clove. I actually enjoyed the flavor initially upon tasting. Unfortunatly, a very watery, metallic finish kicks in almost immediately, to leave a sour aftertaste. This was true throughout the entire bottle.
The beer I drank was called English Ale, instead of the new "Organic Ale", so I may have had an old bottle. Nontheless, not impressed.
