Poured a murky dark amber/orange... which was equally intriguing and off-putting. No head. Bottle-conditioned, particles too small to note. Moderately bitter, woody taste. I’m sure it has it’s place, but I won’t buy again. asheft (1383), Marburg, Germany
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 4/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 16/20 | Feb 17, 2005 Foggy orange-gold with a wispy, filmy head and big bubbly ring. Aroma was pretty weak: mostly caramel and some apple and candy. After the weak aroma, I was pleasantly surprised by the robust caramel and toffee malt flavour in the taste. That flavour was complimented by some spicy maltiness and and sufficient but not too much bittering. There was a faint corn flavour at the tail end as well and some fruit that included apple. Medium body and low to medium carbonation. Very clean finish for an English ale. I would love to try some of this stuff out of a cask. ivan9856 (129), Arlington, Virginia, USA
| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 5/10 | 2/5 | 13/20 | Feb 7, 2005 This ale pours amber in color from the flask-shaped 16.9 oz. bottle, which itself is very stylish. Decanting left a small white head and minimal lacing. I found a mostly floral hop aroma and faint scent of dry straw. The mildest hint of light malt sweetness quickly yields to a strong hop flavor with a lasting bitterness. This ale is medium-light bodied and has low carbonation. It improves greatly as it approaches room temperature, but I rate it only slightly better than average. I would drink this beer more often if it wasn’t so difficult to get. IPFreely (1470), Lewiston, New York, USA
| 2.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 5/10 | 3/5 | 5/10 | 3/5 | 11/20 | Jan 21, 2005 Golden color, white head. Lighter malt, some apple. Light bitterness. Light to medium bodied. Meh. I suppose you could do worse, but it’s pretty boring. rudolf (1751), Buffalo, New York, USA

| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Jan 14, 2005 Pour is orange with no head. Aroma is both malty and hoppy leaning more towards the malt.. Flavor is also malts and hops but the hops are stronger here. Over all pretty light and watery. Nothing to get excited about but it does not offend. | 3.1 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Jan 9, 2005 Bottle from Metro Wines, Syston, Leics. Having chucked most of the Kestrel Super down the plug hole, let’s move onto some out of date beer! Colour is orange, with only a scummy head. Smells like yeast, marmalade and that. Taste is big on smoke, clocking the herbs and pizza in a masque of fume, Parisien waterways and sausage. Oddly meaty given the fruit aroma. Organic - maybe, but no good for veggies. Fairly heavy for the weight (abv), but for a beer not classified as Smoked, this is too smoky. Quite good, but too much on this occasion.
