3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle BBE Nov ’07. Dark ruby, tiny beige head. Old caramel apples on the nose, some kind of meat marinade, hint of spices, soy sauce, gouda, not too much cinnamon, kinda similar to St. Peter’s Winter ale. Flavor is old rotten apples, faint soy sauce, caramel, nutmeg spiciness, bitter chocolate in the finish. Cinnamon has mostly faded. Almost medium bodied, pretty average carbonation. A nicely aged winter brew, didn’t really work when mulled though.

flavour gave nutmeg, apple, pear but where was the cinnamon? a bit cloyingly sweet too.

2.2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottled, 500ml, filtered. Dark brown, red with short malty head. It says spiced ale on the label and that is exactly what you get, loads of it, the nutmeg is particularly dominant in the flavour, but a healthy chunk of cinnamon too. There is a tarry, burnt note to the whole thing. I’m sorry to say I didn’t get it really as a beer, but then again it’s probably not aimed at me.

3 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Bottle. Nose of cream, apples, cloves, nutmeg and other spices. Pours a dark brown beer with a small white head. Taste is primarily spicy, with ginger, apple, malt, hops finishing with a metallic note. When all is said and done, it is not very beer like and more like a mulled wine.

Roasted, almost tarry taste with spices, ashes, cinamon, nutmeg and dried fruit. Rather sweet, almost cloying finish. Very tasty and spicy, but hardly balanced.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
(Bottle 50 cl) Clear warm mahogany with a small, rough, off-white head. Aroma of cinnamon and roasted malt. Medium-bodied, hard roasted/burned malt dominate with a whiff of cinnamon in the finish. Distinct bitterness from the malt. OK, but quite odd. 040307
