2.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Clear golden beer, lazy carbonation. Very smoky aroma. The smoke dominates it all, anmd it comes across as too cigarette-like for me.

500ml green bottle at The Jerusalem Tavern. Clear amber-gold, bubbly, with a large creamy-foamy lasting beige head, thick coats of lacing. Where is the love for this beer? Solid but light Islay peat and iodine, subtle enough to allow the fresh cereal gain backbone to come through, just a bit of alcohol character. Taste follows, on the sweet side, definite salve and bandaid in there, a touch of sulphur - nice, if a bit mild. Light, chewy and astringent mouthfeel, mild bottle carbonation, with a medium lengthed bitter/peaty lightly acidic finish. I would have no problem drinking 2-3 bottles of this one - for once RESTRAINED peaty/whisky character.

2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Pours a clear and golden beer with a weak white head. The aroma is malt, peat and smoke. The flavor follows the nose. The palate is sweetness and smoke. Overall a boring and one dimensional beer.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Pours dark with a small head.
Nose shows heavy peated malt, with smoky, earthy and burnt rubber notes. Not much noticeable underneath that.
The heavy peat carries through as a flavour, initially dominating but eventually fading to reveal some caramel and light toffee.
Could use more carbonation.
Too much peat.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
The beer in the glass is strong golden yellow with a little foam. It smells pleasantly smoky, slightly ham, resinous and subtly woody. Starts with low carbonation and a very pleasant smoke aroma, with lots of ham and some ash. The middle part is smoky, fruity-sweet and subtle ashy in the background. The finish is very strong smoky, with lots of ash and ham, also subtly fruity and sweet in the background.

1.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Bottle. Amber with a poor head. There seems to be some malt and fruitiness in here, but both are barely discernable. This beer is ruled by a brutal and rough sort of peatiness that is the closest thing to iodine apart from iodine itself. Really, it smells (or stinks) like a battlefront hospital during a siege - disgusting. I have had my share of beers that were medicinal in character but never anything like this one. Peat does not equal peat. A big fat fly fell like a bomb from a high altitude into my glass as it was standing in front of me - and we all know what flies like most, right? Anyway, the taste is equally horrible, with the stench of iodine piercing the nostrils from the inside. I compared this with a cheaper Islay single malt whisky (that one was lovely and balanced in comparison with the Smokey) and came to the conclusion that some wood ageing might have done it well. Only might. I somehow managed to finish this, which I am proud of.
