COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - Winter. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
A deep ruby red strong ale with an excellent balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. A classic example of a ’winter warmer’; high in alcohol and rich in taste.

Pour from green bottle. Dark clear ale with tan head. Aroma of dark fruits - raisons, plums, figs - a little grass. Taste is sweet / sour dark malt, lots of dark fruit, sour fruit, a little grass, a little drying hops in the finish.

Cool St. Peters bottle that I didn’t realize was green until I poured it. Very dark ale, great beige head. The palate is slightly disappointing: a touch too thin and too fizzy. But good taste. Plums and nuts, dark grains but not roast. Enough hops to make it dry but nothing more. Thankfully, there are no spices in this Winter Ale.

dark ruby brown colour with a chaotic beige foam left; aroma of prune and nougat; quite malty and full-bodied, some sweetness and a long malty finish with notes of prunes and licorice; some hop presence

500ml bottle at 6.5%. Pours black with a thin head. Aroma is slightly sour raisin malt. Taste has some raisin to start. Woody finish, slightly sour.

Sorry for the german rating, but this is a lousy rating from my "newbie" time (2007-2009), and it’s not worth of being translated. I just added it for the statistics, and to complete my backlog!

14-Feb-12 (500-ml bottle: Purchased 09-Feb-08 for $4.25 at Ledger’s Liquors in Berkeley, CA)
I don’t let many English beers sit in the cellar for long, but this is one that’s really nice with a few years of aging. The nose projects the fruity aroma of raisin first and foremost, as well as other sweet aromas of molasses, brown sugar, and caramely malt. Flavors are a bit darker, roastier, and less obviously fruity than the aromas, showing dark chocolate, licorice, burnt toast with butter, crispy meat, ashtray, caramel, roasted nuts, treacle, tar, and dark raisins. The mouthfeel is smooth and easy, and the finish has a pleasant, roasty dryness to help balance the moderate malty sweetness, and the beer is medium in weight and light-medium in carbonation. The beer is dark brown in color with an almost obscured translucence through the center of the glass that gives the body a bit of a ruddy hue. The tan head pours small, barely reaching a quarter inch, before settling to a wide ring, leaving some spotty lace on the glass. Overall, a very tasty, wonderfully integrated, dark beer that reminds me a little of Old Peculier. This is easily my favorite beer from St. Peter’s thus far, and it obviously cellars very well.

Dark brown colour. Aroma of christmas spices. Taste of dark malt, slight caramel and coffee. One of the better beers from St. Peters

Very dark brown with red glow and creamy beiger head. Soft-bodied beer with nice malts and some hops. Easy drinkable. Doesn’t remind of most dutch or belgian winter beers. It;s more similar to a Samuel Smiths Oatmeal Stout or something in that direction.

Bottle. Pours dark brown reddish with a tanned head. Spicey aroma of caramel, nuts and coffee malts. Flavour is again some burnt caramel, toffee and coffee. Wel balanced, easy drinkable, but too much flavour for a pint sized bottle in my humble opinion.
