COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Seasonal - Winter. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
A deep ruby red strong ale with an excellent balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. A classic example of a ’winter warmer’; high in alcohol and rich in taste.

500ml bottle from the LCBO. Pours a dark chestnut with a tan, one-finger head that thins to a film. Very slight lacing. Aroma is deep and rich. Roasted notes with some smoke, chocolate, dark fruits, toffee, caramel, and coffee. Taste starts out a touch roasted then develops a bitter/sweetness then moves to a fruity, roasted, slightly tart aftertaste. Medium body with a low-medium carbonation. Clean and smooth in the mouth with a soft carbonation. Slight alcohol warmth but nearly no taste of alcohol. Overall a really nice seasonal brew. Not a huge winter warmer but tasty none the less.

Mörkbrun öl med beige skum. Doft av rostad malt, mörka bär sam en aning choklad och kryddor. Bra balans mellan sötma, rostade toner och beska.

Dark brown body with a medium head. Quite complex taste that falls a bit short. Good but not great

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a tan head containing bubbles of varying sizes. Head dissipates within a minute. Deep red colour when held up to a bright light. Aroma is chocolate with hints of molasses. Taste is lightly sweet changing rapidly to semi-bitter chocolate, and a spicy finish. Palate is OK. I have had this beer in previous years; not bad, but I would not rave about it.

Bottle from Systelmbolaget. Very dark reddish beer with a small beige head. Malty aroma has some plum and chocolate in aroma. Flavour has roasted malts with some plum. A bit strange brew.

neuromatt (1168) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 13, 2013
500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy chestnut with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant. The nose has coffee and roast malts, along with dry, porteresque earthy notes. The flavour is moderately sweet with a slight bitterness and big, herbal spicy notes. The finish is long and herbal, with a slight spiciness. On the palate it is medium in body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice light, wintery English ale. The cask version is likely a fair bit nicer. 2012-12-24

UPDATED: AUG 4, 2014 Bottle, 500ml. Pours a deep, but opaque dark brownish colour with a modest tan head. Aroma features a very pleasant sweetness with some nice coffee and dry fruit notes. Medium to heavy bodied. Flat carbonation. Dense dark malt character well balanced by a subtle bitterness. Alcohol is well masked. Excellent ale, warming and very drinkable.

Aged for almost two years. Winey, roast, raisins, malt background, milk chocolate, hints of mocha, coffee, "light" as in not lingering.
