Cask; Seasonal - Winter. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
A deep ruby red strong ale with an excellent balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. A classic example of a ’winter warmer’; high in alcohol and rich in taste.

Dark brown body with a medium head. Quite complex taste that falls a bit short. Good but not great

Pours dark brown, almost black, with a tan head containing bubbles of varying sizes. Head dissipates within a minute. Deep red colour when held up to a bright light. Aroma is chocolate with hints of molasses. Taste is lightly sweet changing rapidly to semi-bitter chocolate, and a spicy finish. Palate is OK. I have had this beer in previous years; not bad, but I would not rave about it.

Bottle from Systelmbolaget. Very dark reddish beer with a small beige head. Malty aroma has some plum and chocolate in aroma. Flavour has roasted malts with some plum. A bit strange brew.

500 mL bottle from the LCBO, served in a stem glass. Pours hazy chestnut with a small tan head that fades to a thin remnant. The nose has coffee and roast malts, along with dry, porteresque earthy notes. The flavour is moderately sweet with a slight bitterness and big, herbal spicy notes. The finish is long and herbal, with a slight spiciness. On the palate it is medium in body with a watery texture and soft carbonation. Overall, this is a nice light, wintery English ale. The cask version is likely a fair bit nicer. 2012-12-24

Bottle, 500ml. Pours a deep, but clear dark brownish colour with a modest tan head. Aroma features a very pleasant sweetness with some nice coffee notes. Magnificent flavour, with a strong, robust body to match. Perfectly balanced, with a perfect, hop and alcohol finish. One of the best I’ve had from St Peters.

Aged for almost two years. Winey, roast, raisins, malt background, milk chocolate, hints of mocha, coffee, "light" as in not lingering.

Bortimot svart farge med lyst brunt skum. Aroma av sjokolade, stenfrukt. Godt med fylde og smaker noe fruktig og sjokolade. Ganske tørr i ettersmak.

Pours dark brown to black with a beige head. Nose: Dried fruit, spice, brown sugar and dark bread. Taste: Medium sweetness, chocolate, fruity, raisin, lightly bitter at the end. Medium body, creamy, soft carbonation. Great beer at this time of year!

Bottle. Dark brown body with a reddish hue. Weak aroma has dried fruit and caramel. Semi-bland taste of caramel and berries. Somewhat drinkable but has no character. Not as disappointing as their Christmas Ale that I had yesterday but just barely passable. Not a "winter warmer" in my book - I could session this on a hot summer evening and it would still feel watery.
