Commercial Description:
Cask; Seasonal - Winter. Also available brewery conditioned and cold filtered in 500ml bottles.
A deep ruby red strong ale with an excellent balance of malt sweetness and hop bitterness. A classic example of a ’winter warmer’; high in alcohol and rich in taste.

Pours a sump oil brown opaque with a small short lasting medium size sudsy brown head. Aroma has roasted malt friars balsam plum pudding, wood fungus and light alcohol. Very low carb medium body. Flavours a tad disappointing lacking the complexity of the excellent aroma. Medium generic cola sweetness and lighter intensity medium bitter roasted malts and hops. Very pleasant drinking.

Bottle (small sample). Cola-colored pour with a small head. Fruity nose, butter and nut on taste. Good brew.

500 ml bottle, $3.29 at Binny’s. The oval flask-shaped bottle is no more, at least in America. Strong, sweet smell with dates and currents in the pour. Color is opaque brown, lighter than a porter, with a foamy tan head. First thing I notice about the taste is its thin mouthfeel and low carbonation. I presume if this had been poured warmer, it might come across like a cask ale. Taste is nice, but I’m missing that sweetness and fruit that I first smelled. Some yeast in suspension. A bit of coffee note comes up as I pass the middle of the bottle. So while the taste was kind of a letdown after the promising first smell, this beer does pack some surprises.

Pours black with a thin tan head. Nice lacing. Aroma is very malty with a hint of hops. Taste is of toasted malt with a slight hop after taste. Almost a porter. Very good.

This is my first of the twelve beers of Christmas. Cool bottle. The ale poured a beautiful black with a small head that disappeared. The higher alcohol was smooth with some sourness. The rich winter ale is fun to drink while watching the Marshall and Ohio U.

From the 1 pint .9 fl. oz. dark olive bottle. The pour is a fairly dark brown, nearly black tone. It has a modest creamy beige head. The aroma has some of the chocolate and cocoa elements mostly associated with a Porter. Lightly hopped. The mouthfeel is medium-heavy. The taste is also akin to a Porter with a bitter punch to it. It is another nice brew from St. Peter’s.

500 ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a dark slightly reddish brown with a tiny tan cap. Aroma is roasty with caramel and dark fruit. Flavour is quite roasty as well with definite chocolate and dark fruit notes. Moderate bitterness in finish; very light carbonation. Pretty good.
