3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Great looking black body with a dark red tint thick tan head. Dark fruits like plums and prunes, dark malt, light smoke and spice. Well hopped. Tastes fairly close to aroma, with caramel and sweet light roasted malt, and licorice and finishes on a bitter cocoa, coffee front.

Pours dark brown to black with a beige head. Nose: Dried fruit, spice, brown sugar and dark bread. Taste: Medium sweetness, chocolate, fruity, raisin, lightly bitter at the end. Medium body, creamy, soft carbonation. Great beer at this time of year!

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle. Dark brown body with a reddish hue. Weak aroma has dried fruit and caramel. Semi-bland taste of caramel and berries. Somewhat drinkable but has no character. Not as disappointing as their Christmas Ale that I had yesterday but just barely passable. Not a "winter warmer" in my book - I could session this on a hot summer evening and it would still feel watery.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle from Wholefoods. Dark brown body with a faint beige head that quickly fades. No lacing. Aroma of lightly roasted malt, dark fruits and a hint of spice. Flavour of caramelised sugar, brown bread and a suggestion of Christmas pudding. Medium body with an oily mouthfeel. Soft carbonation. A nice warming beer for a cold winter’s night.

Third pour I’ve had tonite that says ’winter ale’ on the label (2 from England, 1 from Canada) & this is the most interesting & enjoyable. Pours darker than expected with a thin cap that fades faster than my paycheque this time of the year. Aroma is bursting malt & sweet fruit. Flavour is deep: starts with an explosion of malt & dark fruit & fades to an almost salty hop bitterness. Nice.

2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Mineral, warm milk, and cocoa aroma. Candy dominates the taste, still is this ale quite bitter on the palate. In summary: a very disparate ale with no standouts.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
St. Peter’s Winter Ale has a thin, off-white head, a very dark brown (essentially black) appearance, some visible bubbles steams on the side of the glass, and not a whole lot of lacing left behind. The aroma is of rich, dark-roasted barley malt, black cherries, sugar, a bit of chocolate, and maybe a trace of added spices. Taste is of all that, with a fruit cake note, some bitterness, and a bit of charcoal. Mouthfeel is medium to heavy and slick, and St. Peters’s Winter Ale finishes semi-dry, refreshing, and moderately drinkable. Overall, this is quite delicious. RJT
