Half of a 750ml bottle poured into a tulip glass. Slightly hazy deep brown color, big, thick and steady dark off white head. Yeasty nose with faint fruit and mellow spicy hops and some sink water. Watery overriped and sweet fruit flavor, lo bitterness, some delicate roast, caramel, alcohol and mold. Medium body, gassy, unpleasant finish, not so good.

Bottle , big creamy stable head, dark burgundy red to brown with rusty streaks, aroma of strawberry and apricot jam, waffles an a metalic hint, flavour of sourdough bread with some burned sugar, tropical fruits, cider and citrus, light to medium body and quite sour, very long fruity finish. Suprisingly different and very good.

Bottle, Thanks DSG. Pours dark brown, almost black with a frothy off-white head. Old malt, soapy aroma, then wood. Tastes bitter, a little dry, then slightly sweet. Too carbonated, medium-bodied, alcoholic finish.

Bottle shared at kerenmk’s place. Dark brown a big bubbly beige head. Malty aroma with a bit of fruity esters, a bit perfumy, yeasty spiciness, caramel, a bit of licorice and a bit of alcohol notes. Sweetish malty flavor with caramel, some fruitiness, light toastiness, a faint chocolate note, a bit of licorice and a drier finish, a bit bitter, slightly spicy and slightly alcoholic. Medium-bodied and over-carbonated. OK.

Had it a long time ago but I still remember the taste of it. One of the better dark beers I had in my life. Expensive here in Japan.

Thx. to Tim for sharing this one during the GBF 2012 // 50 cl. swingtop stone ’kruik’ type of bottle sampled // despite the Westmalle name this appears to have nothing to do with that brewery // lighter shade of dark brown with a light mocha head // smells vintage/oxidized, rather mellow nose of dried dark fruits, malts and spices, BE stuff // sweetish concoctions of well aged malts, plenty of nuts, spices, smoothed out, dried fruits, sweet herbal in the back still some hops in here, flourishes of milk chocolate, touch bread // creamy, quite good stuff, easily surpassed my low expectations

Ceramic looking bottle in a Trappist glass. Pours dark brown with a lacy, light tan head. Aroma of spicy yeast, caramel and chocolate from the malts, plus a little hops. Flavor the same, a nice blend of it all. Average texture. A pretty good Belgian beer.
