3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured from bottle. Rich nose of caramel, raisins, nuts -- almost like mincemeat or spiced wine. Color is an opaque dark brown with red highlights; high, cloudy head is very long lasting and leaves great lace. Flavor is clear and complex; milk chocolate, spice, a touch of smoky dryness, and a long, almost tannic finish married to some prickly carbonation.

Pours nearly black; some ruby hints when held up to a light. Tall foamy head. Sweet malt aroma. Taste has notes of chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, some good balancing hops. Lots of malt with a creamy texture. Really liked this one.

17th May 2008. Smooth brown beer. Slightly sour. Has a mild chocolatey taste and the barest hint of toasted malt. Easy drinking.

3.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a chunky dark brown with a medium tan head that recedes down to a small film. I can literally see chunks floating about within. Aroma is mainly of roasted malt, olive oil, slightly metallic. Porterish aroma, if anything. Flavor makes up for the inital dullness. Very malty with sweet molasses and brown sugar notes. Gentle hops. Full mouthfeel yet spritzy = pleasant. In the end, I liked it a lot. Overall, very good plus.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Ceramic bottle poured into tulip glass produced a nice tan head and dark brown body. Taste and aroma of fruits (raisins/plums), spices, caramel, and hints of chocolate. Smooth with a nice fnish.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep cocolate brown with a generous beige head and nice lacing. Slight dark fruits in the aroma, but mostly sweet malts, caramelized sugars, and an earthy yeastiness. Chewy sweet bready malts up front, with candy sugar, cherries and plums close behind. Very slight tartness, and a bit of warming alcohol. Medium to full body, smooth creamy mouthfeel, and a lingering maltiness in the aftertaste. There are better examples of the style, but not much. Extra points for the cool ceramic bottle.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20
16 oz ceramic bottle. Nice bottle, kind of a boring beer though. Pours cola brown with almost no head. Very smooth (as I think this has sat a long time at BevMo.) Aroma of dark fruit; raisins, prunes, molasses, and figs. Finish is clean for me. Like I said, very smooth in the ceramic bottles. SECONDARY NOTE: hmmm...there are definitely some leathery notes here. It is not as it appears to be.
