COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
St. Stan's Dark is a dark colored (20.2 SRM), top fermented beer made in the Altbier style of Dusseldorf Germany, with low carbonation and a smooth, malty medium bitter (31 IBU) taste. The color and rich full coffee/chocolate flavors are produced from blended caramel and chocolate roasted malts. The bittering hops are Fuggles and Bullion and the aromatic hops are Cascades.

Very interesting twist on a Sweet Stout/Cream Stout style. First off, the color is the lightest for the syle I’ve seen. Second, the heavy malt AND hop aroma straight outta the bottle is a killer. Head dies immediately - quicker than my dogs eat their food. Seriously roasted bitterness. Thinner than I expected. Yet, under it all, good.

Tasting Notes from Fall 2000: Smoky, chocolatey. Good bitterness that works very well with its mild sweetness

My favorite. Good head, you can taste the chocolate hops. More for the bolder beer lovers

This was a nice quality beer. Not quite my style, but obviously a good beer.

Excellent interpretation of the style. Nice toasted chocolate malt flavor with a nice bitter twang.

UPDATED: NOV 5, 2003 On the pour a luminous deep ruby color, the head is mediocre in size, frothy in texture and a light tan color, the lace forms a very thin sheet. Nose is dominated by the malt, caramel sweet, pleasant as noses go, start is lightly sweet, top is skeletal in feel. Finish is temperate in its carbonation, the hops obliging in their spicy presence with the aftertaste desert dry, a weak and watery, so it won’t garner much favor from me.
